Membrane-active properties and antiradical activity of gossypol and its derivatives

A novel asymmetric gossypol derivative was synthesized. The antioxidant activity of gossypol and certain of its derivatives at the aldehyde groups and the interaction of these compounds with model membranes were studied. It was shown that the antiradical and membrane activities of the gossypol derivatives were determined by the structure of the substituent and that gossypol and its derivatives were partially localized in the lipid bilayer and possibly induced formation of a new interdigitating phase. Ionophoric and Complexant Properties of Lagochilin Derivatives

The ionophoric and complexant properties of synthetic derivatives of lagochilin, 3,18-O-isopropylidenelagochilin and 3,18-O-ethylidenelagochilin, were studied by BLM methods, conductometry, and IR spectroscopy. The ionophoric activity was found to be highly selective for divalent cations. Studies of the electrical conductivity of alkaline-earth metal salts in the presence of the lagochilin derivatives and analysis of their IR spectra have shown that they can form complexes with various ratios of metal ions.     

An efficient procedure for the synthesis of Esomeprazole using a titanium complex with two chiral ligands

A procedure has been proposed for the selective preparation of Esomeprazole via asymmetric oxidation of the corresponding prochiral sulfide in the presence of a catalytic complex derived from titanium(IV) isopropoxide and two different chiral ligands, diethyl d-tartrate and (R)-N,N-dimethyl-1-phenyl-ethanamine.     

The first example of the stereoselective synthesis and crystal structure of a spirobicycloquinazolinone based on (–)‐fenchone and anthranilamide

The possibility of a single‐stage solvent‐free stereoselective synthesis of a spirocyclic compound from the natural bicyclic monoterpenoid (?)‐fenchone and anthranilamide has been shown for the first time. The molecular and crystal structure of (1R,2S,4S)‐1,3,3‐trimethyl‐1′H‐spiro[bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane‐2,2′‐quinazolin]‐4′(3′H)‐one, C₁₇H₂₂N₂O, was established by X‐ray diffraction though the chirality was assumed via the known reactant connectivity and ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. It has shown that in the molecule, for steric reasons, there is an elongation of the Me₂C—C(N)N bond to 1.603 (5) Å. The formation of dimers via N—H…O=C hydrogen bonds with an interaction energy of 93.30 kJ mol^?1 and through cavities (33.7% of the unit‐cell volume) was established in the packing of the molecules. There are no π‐stacking interactions in the structure.     

One-pot synthesis of 1,5,3-oxathiazepanes via the three-component condensation of primary amines,formaldehyde and 2-mercaptoethanol

The three-component condensation reaction of primary amines, formaldehyde and 2-mercaptoethanol using salts of transition and rare earth metals as catalysts was developed to obtain a new 7-membered heterocyclic structural building block, 1,5,3-oxathiazepanes, in good to excellent yields. The structure of the heterocyclic fragment was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy.     

Vortex Excitations Above Tc in the Cuprate Superconductor Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 as Revealed by ESR

Using electron spin resonance (ESR) technique we have obtained data evidencing the existence of magnetic vortices in high-temperature superconductors at temperatures above the critical one T _c. We have studied magnetic excitations in Bi₂Sr₂Ca₂Cu₃O₁₀ single crystals above T _c with the method of surface spin decoration. The surface layer of diphenylpicrylhydrazyl was used as a sensitive probe of magnetic field distortions. The temperature dependence of the ESR signal parameters has indicated that far above T _c the magnetic flux of a sample is affected by the superconducting order parameter fluctuations while close to T _c its changes are due to vortex-type excitations.     

Chiral schiff bases synthesized from terpenes of pinane series in asymmetric metall complex oxidation of sulfides

The absolute configuration of α-hydroxyaldehyde obtained from verbenol epoxide in the presence of clay was determined. Two new Schiff bases were synthesized from the aldehyde obtained. The compounds can be used as ligands in the asymmetric vanadium-catalyzed oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides. The structure of initial sulfides significantly affects the value of the enantiomeric excess in the obtained sulfoxides: the highest enantiomeric excess is observed in the oxidation of thioanisole.
