Stability constants of 2-mercaptohistamine metal complexes

Summary Stability constants of 2-mercaptohistamine (2-MH) with a number of transition metal ions were determined by a potentiometric titration method and the coordination mode of (2-MH) metal complexes were thereby characterized. With Mn^II, Fe^ll, Co^II, and Ni^II, coordination occurred through both the imidazole-nitrogen and amino groups, while with Zn^II, Cd^II, Pb^II, and Hg^II, both thiolate and amino groups, contribute to the coordination. in the 2-MH copper complex, polymer formation is suggested on the basis of visible absorption and e.p.r. spectra.     

High field magnetization of Y2Co7 and YCo3 hydrides

The magnetization curves for the Y₂Co₇H_x and the YCo₃H_x systems have been measured at 4.2 K in the pulsed high magnetic fields up to 280 kOe. The metamagnetic transition is observed in the β and the γ hydrides except for Y₂Co₇H₃ and YCo₃H₁, which is interpreted in terms of the itinerant electron metamagnetism.

Three isomeric compounds, I, II and III, were prepared and their mass spectra recorded. Comparisons of the spectra showed that the fragmentation of I proceeds only by way of II, and that II itself is transformed in part to III upon electron impact. It is suggested that selective ionization of each one of the two isolated functional groups in II may afford two isomeric radical ions, IIa and IIb. A possible interrelation to the photochemistry of these compounds is also discussed.     

Simultaneous Laser-Induced Fluorescence Imaging of Unburnt and Reacting Areas in Combustion Fields Using a KrF Excimer Laser

Simultaneous two-dimensional imaging of an unburnt area and a reacting area was performed using laser-induced fluorescence. Acetone was added to fuel as a tracer, and OH radical was used as a marker of the reacting area. A narrow band tunable KrF excimer laser (248 nm) was employed to excite acetone and OH simultaneously. Two intensified CCD cameras with different wavelength filters were used to detect these two kinds of species respectively. Detecting 294-314 nm (A-X (3, 2), etc.) for OH and 335-410 nm for acetone, we obtained images of each species without interference of a signal from the other. The method was also successfully applied to flames in a pressurized combustion chamber under the pressure of 0.5 MPa.     

Berchemolide, a novel dimeric vanillic acid glucoside from Berchemia racemosa.

A new phenol glycoside named berchemolide was isolated together with (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin (as acetates), from the stems of Berchemia racemosa Sieb. et Zucc. (Rhamnaceae). The structure of berchemolide, having a dimeric dilactone structure with a 22-membered ring, was determined on the basis of spectral and chemical investigations. The conformation of berchemolide was calculated by MNDO (modified neglect of diatomic overlap).
