Effect of intraperitoneally administered beta-1,3-glucan, SSG, obtained from Sclerotinia sclerotiorum IFO 9395 on the functions of murine alveolar macrophages

The effect of intraperitoneally (i.p.) administered SSG, a beta-1,3-glucan obtained from the culture filtrate of the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum IFO 9395, on the functions of alveolar macrophages (AM) in CDF1 mice was examined. SSG administered i.p. increased the number of AM and enhanced several functions of murine AM (lysosomal enzyme activity, phagocytic activity, candidacidal activity, H2O2 production and interleukin 1 (IL-1) production) at a dose of 250 micrograms/mouse on days 1 and 8, especially on day 8. Furthermore, SSG (250 micrograms/mouse) administered i.p. for 10 consecutive days significantly inhibited the experimental pulmonary metastasis of Lewis Lung Carcinoma (3LL) on BDF1 mice.

Asymmetric Synthesis of N-（Diphenylphosphinyl）furfurylamine by the Enantioselective Alkylation of Furfurylimine

Optically active N-（diphenylphosphinyl）furfurylamines 2 with good ee values were obtained by the enantioselective addition of dialkylzincs to furfuryl imine 1 in the presence of chiral aminoalcohol derivatives and oxazolines.     

Stepwise conversion of oxiranes to allylic alcohols by iodotrimethylsilane and DBU

Iodotrimethylsilane, prepared from hexamethyldisilane and iodine reacts smoothly with oxiranes to give (2-iodoalkoxy)trimethylsilanes which can be converted to allylic alcohols with DBU in good yields. The whole conversion can be carried out in one-pot operation.     

Apparent molal volumes of butylammonium chlorides and sodium butanecarboxylates in dilute aqueous solutions

The densities of dilute aqueous solutions of the isomers of butylammonium chlorides (n-, iso-, sec-, andtert-BuNH₃Cl) and sodium butanecarboxylates (n-, iso-, sec-, andtert-BuCOONa) have been determined at 5, 25, and 45°C using a buoyancy technique. The limiting partial molal volumes \(\bar V^\circ\) and expansibilities of the solutes have been evaluated. The branching of alkyl chain causes larger \(\bar V^\circ\) values for BuNH₃Cl series but smaller values for BuCOONa series. The \(\bar V^\circ\) values of branched isomers have been calculated using the data for volume increment accompanying methyl substitution. Good agreement with the experimental values was obtained. It is suggested that the volumetric behavior of the organic electrolytes studied is governed by the influences of the ionic groups on the hydrophobic hydration. The results have been compared with the data for butanol isomers.     

On the comparative accuracy of lexicographical solutions in cooperative games

This study assesses the relative predictive accuracy of three lexicographical solution concepts within a context of eight 3-person, cooperative, superadditive, side-payment games with non-empty core. The solution concepts include the nucleolus [Schmeidler], the disruption nucleolus [Littlechild/Vaidya], and the 2-center solution [Spinetto, 1971]. The experiment involved 480 subjects (half male, half female) who participated in 160 randomly formed 3-person groups. Results indicate that the disruption nucleolus is significantly more accurate than the nucleolus (p<.01), which in turn is significantly more accurate than the 2-center solution (p<.01). These findings are discussed in terms of the lexicographical structure of the theories.     

PMR and magnetic susceptibility of tetrakis-(dibenzoylmethanato) uranium(IV) in solution

There are opposite opinions as to the geometrical structure of U(IV)-β-diketonate in solution. From the result of both PMR spectra and magnetic susceptibility in solution, a square antiprism with higher symmetry than a dodecahedron is considered to be the structure in solution.     

Determination of aminocresol isomers by high-speed liquid chromatography

Aminocresol isomers (4-hydroxy-m-toluidine [II], 3-hydroxy-p-toluidine [II], 2-hydroxy-p-toluidine [III]) and p-aminophenol have been separated and determined by a high-speed liquid Chromatographie method. Since this method is applicable in aqueous media, it was used to investigate the suitability of a haemin-cysteine system as a model for the cytochrome P-450 mono-oxygenase system, by determination of the [I], [II], [III] and p-aminophenol formed.
