Infrared diode laser spectroscopy of the NS radical

The v = 1 ← 0 vibration-rotation bands of the NS radical in the $\text{X}{}^2\text{Π}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$ and $\text{X}{}^2\text{Π}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>3</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$ electronic states were observed by using a tunable diode laser. From the least-squares analysis the band origins were determined to be 1204.2755(12) and 1204.0892(19) cm^?1, respectively, for $\text{X}{}^2\text{Π}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$ and $\text{X}{}^2\text{Π}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>3</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$. The rotational and centrifugal distortion constants and the internuclear distance in the X²Π electronic state were obtained as follows: B_e = 0.775549(10) cm^?1, D_e = 0.00000129(33) cm^?1, and $\text{r}{}_{\mathrm{e}}\text{= 1.49403(4)}\text{A}\text{?}$, with three standard deviations indicated in parentheses.     

Water-soluble constituents of caraway: carvone derivatives and their glucosides

Nine monoterpenoids related to carvone and seven glucosides were isolated from the water-soluble portion of the methanolic extract of the caraway (fruit of Carum carvi L.), and their structures were clarified by spectral investigation. Among them, eight monoterpenoids and six glucosides were new.     

La2MgGeO6: a novel Ge based perovskite synthesised under ambient pressure

In this communication we report the synthesis and structural characterisation of the new perovskite phase La2MgGeO6, which is the first example of a Ge based perovskite phase synthesised at ambient pressure.     

Pulse dispersion in a lens-like medium

An analysis is given of dispersion in an optical fibre waveguide having a continuous radial variation of refractive index using the scalar wave approximation. Solutions are presented for the particular case of Selfoc fibre taking into account mode dispersion, material dispersion and group delay. It is shown that for a correctly matched input Gaussian beam the pulse dispersion is small although in practice it is likely to be 1 ns over a length of 1 km.On leave from the Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Japan.     

The fixed boundary value problems for the equations of ideal Magneto-Hydrodynamics with a perfectly conducting wall condition

The equations of ideal Magneto-Hydrodynamics are investigated concerning initial boundary value problems with a perfectly conducting wall condition. The local in time solution is proved to exist uniquely, provided that the normal component of the initial magnetic field vanishes everywhere or nowhere on the boundary.     

Enzymatic synthesis and chemical recycling of poly(carbonate-urethane)

Novel enzymatically recyclable poly(carbonate-urethane) consisting of a diurethane moiety as a hard segment and a carbonate linkage as an enzymatically cleavable unit was prepared by the polycondensation of biodegradable diurethanediol and diethyl carbonate using lipase. The produced poly(carbonate-urethane) was readily transformed by lipase into the corresponding cyclic oligomers which were more easily repolymerized by lipase to produce a higher molecular weight poly(carbonate-urethane) than that of the parent poly(carbonate-urethane).
