We have developed an LSI-based amperometric sensor called "Bio-LSI" with 400 measurement points as a platform for electrochemical bio-imaging and multi-point biosensing. The system is comprised of a 10.4 mm × 10.4 mm CMOS sensor chip with 20 × 20 unit cells, an external circuit box, a control unit for data acquisition, and a DC power box. Each unit cell of the chip contains an operational amplifier with a switched-capacitor type I-V converter for in-pixel signal amplification. We successfully realized a wide dynamic range from ±1 pA to ±100 nA with a well-organized circuit design and operating software. In particular, in-pixel signal amplification and an original program to control the signal read-out contribute to the lower detection limit and wide detection range of Bio-LSI. The spacial resolution is 250 μm and the temporal resolution is 18-125 ms/400 points, which depends on the desired current detection range. The coefficient of variance of the current for 400 points is within 5%. We also demonstrated the real-time imaging of a biological molecule using Bio-LSI. The LSI coated with an Os-HRP film was successfully applied to the monitoring of the changes of hydrogen peroxide concentration in a flow. The Os-HRP-coated LSI was spotted with glucose oxidase and used for bioelectrochemical imaging of the glucose oxidase (GOx)-catalyzed oxidation of glucose. 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-oxocyclohexadienylidene porphyrinogen and its di-N-benzylated derivative are solvatochromic dyes capable of binding anionic species. The influence of solvent polarity and hydrogen bonding on their electronic absorption spectra was observed. Hydrogen bonding by the porphyrinogen amine protons of acetone solvent molecules could be observed in the solid state. The acetone solvate of N21N23-dibenzyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis-3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-oxocyclohexadienylidene porphyrinogen crystallized under anhydrous conditions in the space group P with cell dimensions a = 12.1693(11) A, b = 17.5849(13) A, c = 21.0965(17) A, alpha = 69.870(4) degrees , beta = 78.140(4) degrees , gamma = 82.865(5) degrees . These porphyrinogens are capable of binding a variety of anions and can be used to distinguish fluoride chromogenically from the other halide anions. Solvatochromism was combined with anion binding in an attempt to provide more selective tests for anions. The National Metrology Institute of Japan has issued a certified reference material (CRM) of freshwater lake sediment for
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) analyses. The certification used three extraction techniques: pressurized liquid extraction
(PLE) with toluene, PLE with dichloromethane/ethyl acetate (1:1 by volume), and alkaline extraction (1 M KOH in methanol)
in combination with microwave-assisted extraction. Both gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and liquid chromatography/dopant-assisted
atmospheric pressure photoionization/MS (LC/DA-APPI/MS) analyses were used. Certified values are provided for 18 PAHs at 1–25 μg
kg−1 except for perylene (2.08 × 103 μg kg−1), and information values are provided for two. Since the values of PAHs in the CRM are much lower than those in other CRMs
and are comparable to those found at sites with little human influence, the CRM is suitable for PAH monitoring in sediment
