Analysis of Ethylene/1‐Olefin Copolymers Made with Ziegler–Natta Catalysts by Deconvolution of Molecular Weight and Average Short Chain Branching Distributions

In this article a systematic method is proposed to deconvolute the time‐dependent molecular weight distributions (MWD) and average comonomer fraction profiles of ethylene/1‐olefin copolymers made with heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalysts. These distributions with a high‐temperature gel permeation chromatography equipped with an infrared detector at four different polymerization times have been measured and used this information to infer how the fractions of polymer made on each site type varied with polymerization time. The model estimates here the minimum number of active site types needed to describe these copolymers, the MWD of polymer populations made on each site type, and their average comonomer fractions. This method is useful to quantify the microstructure of olefin copolymers made with multiple site type catalysts using the least number of adjustable parameters.

     

Solvent effect on the linkage isomerism in [Fe(CO)4(NCS)]− and [Fe(CO)4(SCN)]− anions: A theoretical investigation

The present study illustrated the stability of linkage isomers of [Fe(CO)₄(NCS)]^? and [Fe(CO)₄(SCN)]^? by the use of PBE quantum method. It also investigated the polarity of solvent effect on dipole moment, structural parameters, and frontier orbital energies of complexes. The results indicated that the polarity of solvent had a significant effect on the frontier orbital energies and HOMO-LUMO gap. The character of Fe-C bonds of molecules was analyzed by Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. Back-bonding effect in these bonds was explored with calculation of quadrupole polarization of carbon atom by QTAIM analysis. Also, ¹⁴N NQR parameters were used for the illustration of Fe-NCS and Fe-SCN bonds.     

On pre-Λ-Sets and pre-v-Sets

We introduce the notions of a pre--set and a pre-V-set in a topological space. We study the fundamental properties of pre--sets and pre-V-sets and investigate the topologies defined by these families of sets.     

Some properties of almostS-continuous functions

Noiri et al. in [16] introduced and investigated the notion of almosts-continuous functions. The object of this paper is to investigate some more properties of this type of functions.     

Review of nanofluids for heat transfer applications

Research on nanofluids has progressed rapidly since its enhanced thermal conductivity was first repotted about a decade ago,though much controversy and inconsistency have been reported,and insufficient understanding of the formulation and mechanism of nanofluids further limits their applications.This work presents a critical review of research on heat transfer applications of nanofluids with the aim of identifying the limiting factors so as to push forward their further development.     

THE PREPARATION AND SOME REACTIONS OF 3-THIETANONES

Abstract

3-Thietanones have been prepared by treating certain ketones with thionyl chloride or sulphur dichloride. In the case of ketones containing a tertiary alpha proton the initial product obtained on treatment with thionyl chloride is the sulphinyl chloride which then cyclises to the thietanone.     

Spectrophotometric Study of the Complexation of Some Lanthanide (III) Ions with a Series of 18-Crowns-6 in DMSO Solution Using Murexide as a Metallochromic Indicator

The complexation of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III) and Er(III) with 18-crown-6(18C6), dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6), dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 (DCY18C6) anddibenzopyridino-18-crown-6 (DBPY18C6) has been studied in dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO) by means of a competitive spectrophotometric method using murexide asa metal ion indicator. The formation constants of the 1 : 1 complexeswere found tovary in the order La(III) > Ce(III) > Pr(III) > Er(III). It was foundthat the structure influences the formation and stability of the resultingcomplexes. The effects ofvarious parameters on complexation are discussed. The order of the stabilityconstants of each lanthanide ion with these macrocycles are18C6 > DC18C6 > DB18C6 > DBPY18C6.     

Solid phase extraction of gold by sorption on octadecyl silica membrane disks modified with pentathia-15-crown-5 and determination by AAS

A simple and selective method for rapid and efficient concentration and determination of μg l⁻¹ levels of Au(III) ions in aqueous solution using octadecyl silica membrane disks modified by pentathia-15-crown-5 and flame atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. The influence of flow rates of eluent and sample solution, amount of ligand, types and least amount of eluent for elution of Au from disks were investigated. Break through volume and limit of detection of the membrane disks modified by 5 mg of the thiacrown ether was found to be 2.0 l and 1.0 μg l⁻¹, respectively. The effects of various cationic interferences on percent recovery of gold were studied. The method was successfully applied for the determinations of gold in some pharmaceutical samples and for the recovery of trace Au³⁺ ions from synthetic and water samples.     

Photolytic decarboxylation of α-arylcarboxylic acids mediated by HgF2 under a dioxygen atmosphere

Mercuric fluoride (HgF₂), as a light-sensitive inorganic compound, in the presence of dioxygen is able to convert various α-aryl- and α,α-diarylcarboxylic acids into the corresponding aldehydes and ketones selectively under photoirradiation via trapping of the benzylic radical by O₂.
