The metallation of 1,2-dimethylimidazole

Under the action of butyllithium, 1,2-dimethylimidazole is metallated in position 5. The reactions of 5-lithio-1,2-dimethylimidazole with N-bromodiethylamine, benzaldehyde, benzophenone, dimethylformamide, and -iodophenylacetylene have been performed.     

Synthesis and reactivity of 10-Alkylphenotellurazines

The reaction of N-alkyl-2,2-dilithium diphenylamines with tellurium diiodide yields derivatives of a new heterocyclic system, phenotellurazine. 10-Alkyl-phenotellurazines readily form derivatives containing tetra- and tricoordinated tellurium, form complexes with metal salts and rhodium(I) carbonyl chloride, and by bromination and nitration give 3,7-dibromo- or 3-nitro-, 3,7-dinitro, and 1,3, 7,9-tetranitro derivatives.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 6, pp. 757–768, June, 1985.     

A new approach to the synthesis of telluranthene

A series of new methods of synthesizing telluranthrene are proposed, based on the use of poly(o-phenylene)ditelluride and its precursors. The best yields of telluranthene are obtained by the reactions of the disodium salt of o-ditellurolobenzene with o-diiodobenzene (50–62%) and of poly(o-phenylene)ditelluride with butyllithium.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 10, pp. 1424–1427, October, 1991.

A study of nitrogen-containing bisheterocyclic systems

On the basis of determinations of dipole moments and quantum-mechanical calculations for a series of N-(benzimidazol-2-yl)azoles, it has been concluded that they have a nonplanar structure. The calculation of the total -electronic charges on the individual fragments of the molecules studied has shown that the benzimidazol-2-yl radical possesses electron-accepting properties with respect to a N-heteryl residue.For part II, see [1].
