Deformations of locally abelian Galois representations and unramified extensions

We study the deformation theory of Galois representations whose restriction to every decomposition subgroup is abelian. As an application, we construct unramified non-solvable extensions over the field obtained by adjoining all p-power roots of unity to the field of rational numbers.     

Miscibilities of methanol and ethanol with dodecylammonium chloride in the adsorbed film and micelle

The surface tension of the aqueous solutions of methanol– dodecylammonium chloride (DAC) and ethanol–DAC mixtures has been measured as a function of the total molality of the mixture m^ and the mole fraction of DAC X^₂ in the mixture at 298.15?K under atmospheric pressure. The compositions of the adsorbed film at 50, 40, and 30?mN?m^-1, and that of the micelle at the critical micelle concentration (CMC) have been evaluated by applying the thermodynamic equations derived previously and shown in the form of phase diagrams of adsorption and micelle formation. It has been found that (i) methanol is hardly miscible in M28.8nthe adsorbed film and micelle, and (ii) ethanol molecules are very slightly incorporated into adsorbed film of DAC at high-surface tension and into the micelle, although hardly miscible in the adsorbed film at low-surface tension. By comparing the corresponding phase diagrams of ethanol-2- (octylsulfinyl)ethanol (OSE) mixture, furthermore, it has been shown that there exists a difference in the miscibility of ethanol between DAC and OSE.     

AC loss of low temperature superconducting AC wire caused by longitudinal and azimuthal AC magnetic field components

We investigated the AC loss characteristics of a low temperature NbTi AC wire by measuring the AC transport current losses in the external AC magnetic field whose components are the longitudinal and transverse ones. The measurement results showed that the AC losses were significantly dependent on the directions and magnitudes of the external longitudinal field component. The AC losses caused by the longitudinal and azimuthal field components were estimated by our previously derived model. The theoretical results well explained the dependence of the AC losses on the longitudinal field components. It was also shown that the AC losses can be substantially reduced by the proper choice of the twisting way.     

Dielectric-field effect correction on i.r. band shapes in the liquid phase

The dielectric-field correction on i.r. band shape in the liquid has been studied by using the Lorentz internal field. The deformation of the band shape is inappreciable for a weak absorption band that becomes measurable only at a sample thickness larger than 10μ. The shapes of the strong singlet and doublet bands of hexafluorobenzene at 1530 cm^?1 and near 1000 cm^?1, respectively, and also of the doublet band of carbon tetrachloride near 790 cm^?1 have been measured in dilute solutions and compared with those for the pure liquid.     

The effect of photo-irradiation in hydrolysis and condensation of silicon alkoxide

A silicon alkoxide-water-ethanol mixed solution was irradiated with ultraviolet rays, and the change of the silicon alkoxide molecular structure was evaluated by ²⁹Si nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies. Silicon alkoxide was hydrolyzed and the Si-OH bonds were produced by UV irradiation without any chemical catalyst for hydrolysis. The Si-O-Si bonds were also produced, and viscosity of the alkoxide solution became higher due to condensation of alkoxide.     

Dissociation processes of Kr2(+) and Kr3(+) studied by threshold photoelectron-photoion coincidence measurements

A time-of-flight (TOF) ion mass spectrum in coincidence with threshold photoelectrons was measured in the photon energy region between the first and second dissociation limits of Kr2(+) to examine the decay processes of the Kr2(+) II(1/2u) state. The measured TOF spectrum reveals that Kr+ fragment ions are produced through dissociation of the repulsive I(1/2g) state, which can be formed by the decay process of the II(1/2u) state accompanied with emission of photons. The potential-energy curve of the I(1/2g) state is deduced with detailed analysis of the observed TOF spectrum, in which the radiative lifetime of the II(1/2u) state was also derived to be 2.5 micros. Additionally, evidence of the dissociation process of Kr3(+) ions was obtained in the same photon energy region, where the dominant channel is Kr3(+) --> Kr2(+) + Kr.
