Efficient and Industrially Viable Synthesis of Donepezil

An efficient, economically viable process has been developed for large‐scale preparation of donepezil HCl (1), an anti‐Alzheimer's agent. The process involves the condensation of 5,6‐dimethoxy‐1‐indanone (3) and 1‐benzyl‐4‐piperidinecarboxaldehyde (4) in the presence of alkalimetal carbonates at elevated temperature to yield 1‐benzyl‐4‐[(5,6‐dimethoxy‐1‐indanone)‐2‐yidenyl] methyl piperidine (2), the key intermediate in the synthesis of donepezil. Hydrogenation of 2 yields donepezil.     

Synthesis and characterization of a new lanthanide based MRI contrast agent,potential and versatile tracer for multimodal imaging

In the present work a modular pathway towards the synthesis of a new versatile MRI contrast agent is reported and its physico-chemical properties are described. Two different functional groups were attached on two arms of the gadolinium 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetate (DOTA) in order to get a platform able to bind one probe designed to target specific biological marker and a fluorescent molecule likely to be used for optical imaging. The nuclear magnetic relaxation dispersion (NMRD) profile, the oxygen-17 relaxometric NMR study and stability assessment versus transmetalation of the Gd-complex show that this new contrast agent has a relaxivity and transmetalation stability similar to Gd–DOTA.     

Impact of Gd3+ and Nd3+ ions substitution on structural and magnetic properties of Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 ferrite system

Co_0.5Ni_0.5(Gd/Nd)_xFe_2-xO₄ (x ?= ?0.0 and 0.06) ferrites were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. These materials were characterized by XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, and VSM techniques. The XRD analysis revealed the phase formation of all samples and their cubic spinel structure with the Fd-3m space group. Lattice constant was found to increase due to Gd and Nd ions substitution. However, the crystallite size was observed to decrease by the substitution effect. The FT-IR spectra showed the two vibrational frequency bands of the tetrahedral and octahedral sites. From the magnetic properties study, it was identified that the pure and Gd substituted Co_0.5Ni_0.5Fe₂O₄ ferrite showed a ferromagnetic behaviour. While the Nd substituted Co_0.5Ni_0.5Fe₂O₄ ferrite delivered a superparamagnetic behaviour. The substitution of Gd and Nd changed the values of the magnetic parameters of Co_0.5Ni_0.5Fe₂O₄ ferrite. An increase in the saturation magnetization (M_s) value was observed due to substitution of Gd and Nd in Co_0.5Ni_0.5Fe₂O₄ ferrite, indicating that Gd and Nd substitution strengthen the supermagnetic interactions in Co_0.5Ni_0.5Fe₂O₄ ferrite. The highest value of M_s was observed in Gd doped sample.     

PET Imaging of Bacterial Infections with Fluorine‐18‐Labeled Maltohexaose

A positron emission tomography (PET) tracer composed of ¹⁸F‐labeled maltohexaose (MH¹⁸F) can image bacteria in vivo with a sensitivity and specificity that are orders of magnitude higher than those of fluorodeoxyglucose (¹⁸FDG). MH¹⁸F can detect early‐stage infections composed of as few as 10⁵ E. coli colony‐forming units (CFUs), and can identify drug resistance in bacteria in vivo. MH¹⁸F has the potential to improve the diagnosis of bacterial infections given its unique combination of high specificity and sensitivity for bacteria.

A Factorial Design Approach for Hydrothermal Synthesis of Phase‐Pure AgInO2: A Parametric Optimization Study

Owing to a wide range of industrial applications and fundamental importance, delafossite compounds have gathered tremendous interest in research community. In this study, the formation of hexagonal nanoplates of AgInO₂ mainly dominated by (00l) facets with no metallic Ag impurity, reported using a facile hydrothermal route at 180 °C using KOH as mineralizer by adopting a factorial design approach. Rietveld analysis of the powder XRD pattern and SAED confirms the rhombohedral system of AgInO₂. FE‐SEM image shows a uniform hexagonal plate‐like morphology with an average width of about 300 nm and thickness of 70 nm. XPS and EDX analysis confirm potassium ion free AgInO₂. A specific surface area of about 48.5 m² g^?1 is arrived from N₂ adsorption studies. Temperature‐dependent AC impedance measurements revealed an activation energy of 0.24 eV/f.u. Further, TG‐DTA studies found that the compound is stable in air up to 595 °C.     

Elastic Behaviour of Mn–Zn and Mg–Zn Ferrites

The elastic moduli of four different composition of mixed Mn–Zn and Mg–Zn ferrites in the polycrystalline form have been measured at the room temperature using the ultrasonic pulse transmission method. The values of Young's modulus and the rigidity modulus are corrected to theoretical density using the method of Mackenzie. From the values of longitudinal and shear velocities, the Debye temperature has been calculated.     

Temperature variation of lattice parameter and thermal expansion of TmAl2

The lattice parameter of TmAl₂ has been measured from room temperature to 637 K using CuKα-radiation. The data have been used to evaluate the coefficient of thermal expansion at various temperatures. It was found that the lattice parameter increases while the coefficient of expansion remains constant throughout the range of temperature studied.     

Compensation for surface coil sensitivity variation in magnetic resonance imaging

A procedure which incorporates the aspects of both correction matrix and digital filtering to compensate for sensitivity fall-off of the surface coil has been applied to clinical imaging. In this method the surface coil profile is determined using the surface coil image and a crude body coil image. Our results indicate that the corrected surface coil image exhibits the homogeneity of the body coil image while essentially preserving the sensitivity of the surface coil image.
