Tumor pleural effusion proteome profiling for ovarian cancer biomarkers mining

Mass spectrometric proteome profiling of tumor pleural effusion (TPE) liquid fraction from ovarian cancer patients was performed to identify the potential biomarkers of the disease. The methodology of analysis of the TPE protein composition included the removal of high-abundant proteins by affinity chromatography, additional fractionation of the low-abundant proteins based on their lipophilicity, and high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis. As a result, 190 proteins were indentified, 49% of them belonging to the groups of extracellular and membrane proteins. The application of several criteria to data analysis allowed us to generate a group of 26 proteins that are promising candidates for testing as ovarian cancer biomarkers.     

Allyl-containing polyaryl ethers with perfluorinated mono- and biphenylene fragments

A method for the synthesis of fluorinated allyl-containing bisphenol based on 4,4′-[(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-1,4-phenylene)bis(oxy)]diphenol has been elaborated. Curable aromatic polyethers have been prepared via polycondensation of the synthesized bisphenol with decafluorobiphenyl. The influence of bases, namely K₂CO₃ and NaH, on the molecular weights of polymers has been studied, and the conditions of their curing at allyl moieties have been found. Mechanical, physicochemical, and dielectric properties of allylcontaining polymers are dependent on the method of their preparation and curing.     

Approaches for the analysis of low molecular weight compounds with laser desorption/ionization techniques and mass spectrometry

This review summarizes various approaches for the analysis of low molecular weight (LMW) compounds by different laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry techniques (LDI-MS). It is common to use an agent to assist the ionization, and small molecules are normally difficult to analyze by, e.g., matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) using the common matrices available today, because the latter are generally small organic compounds themselves. This often results in severe suppression of analyte peaks, or interference of the matrix and analyte signals in the low mass region. However, intrinsic properties of several LDI techniques such as high sensitivity, low sample consumption, high tolerance towards salts and solid particles, and rapid analysis have stimulated scientists to develop methods to circumvent matrix-related issues in the analysis of LMW molecules. Recent developments within this field as well as historical considerations and future prospects are presented in this review.     

Synthesis and evaluation of the antioxidant properties for some novel aminomethyl derivatives of 2,6-diisobornylphenol bearing a pinane moiety

Some new derivatives based on 2,6-diisobornylphenol and containing amine moieties of the pinane structure at the para-position relative to the phenolic hydroxy group were synthesized. The antioxidant properties of the obtained compounds were estimated using various in vitro models. The introduction of diamine moiety into a starting molecule led to a significant increase in the radical scavenging activity and the ability to chelate Fe²⁺ ions.

     

Gamow-Teller strength in the exotic odd-odd nuclei 138La and 180Ta and its relevance for neutrino nucleosynthesis

The Gamow-Teller strength distributions below the particle threshold in 138La and 180Ta, deduced from high-resolution measurements of the (3He,t) reaction at 0 degrees, allow us to evaluate the role of charged-current reactions for the production of these extremely rare nuclides in neutrino-nucleosynthesis models. The analysis suggests that essentially all 138La in the Universe can be made that way. Neutrino nucleosynthesis also contributes significantly to the abundance of 180Ta but the magnitude depends on the unknown branching ratio for population of the long-lived isomer.     

Synthesis of C-phosphorylated benzenesulfonyl-containing acetamidines

Reactions of sodium derivatives of C-phosphorylated acetamidines with benzenesulfonyl chloride were studied. The reactions proceed selectively to form benzenesulfonyl-containing acetamidine derivatives. A convenient method for the synthesis of a new type of C-phosphorylated acetamidines was developed utilizing CH-acid properties.

1,5-Dimethyl-2,3,3,4-Tetrachloro-1,5-Diaza-2,4-Diphosphorinan-6-One and some derivatives

A synthesis of C-chlorinated analogues of 1,5-diaza-2,4-diphosphorinan-6-ones is described. The P-chlorophosphine 3 , a key compound for all reported substitution reactions, reacts in an unusual way with N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-bis(trimethylsilyl)urea to give the unsymmetrical product 5 , the formation of which is accounted for by a silatropy of the intermediate compound 4 . Compound 5 is stable in solution but rearranges quantitatively into isomer 6 without solvent at room temperature. Compound 3 , its fluoro derivative 9 , and the alkoxy derivatives 10a–d exist as cis-and trans-isomers. Some stereochemical aspects, as well as the possibility of 1,2-chlorotropy, are discussed.     

Structure and magnetic properties of Cu-Fe fiber composites obtained using packet hydrostatic extrusion

The structure and magnetic properties of Cu-Fe fiber composites prepared by packet hydrostatic extrusion are studied. The number of armco-iron fibers in the copper matrix attained n ∼ 8 × 10¹⁰, and rated diameter d of fibers varied from 2 mm to 3 nm. A correlation is observed between the magnetization hysteresis curves and low-frequency magnetic susceptibility obtained on samples with various values of d. It is shown that the magnetic properties of composites in the submicrometer range of d values are satisfactorily described in the magnetization reversal theory for small ferromagnetic particles.
