In recent years, liquid crystals (LCs) responding to light or electrical fields have gained significant importance as multifunctional materials. Herein, two new series of photoswitchable bent-core liquid crystals (BCLCs) derived from 4-cyanoresorcinol as the central core connected to an azobenzene based wing and a phenyl benzoate wing are reported. The self-assembly of these molecules was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarizing light microscopy (POM), electro-optical, dielectric, second harmonic generation (SHG) studies, and XRD. Depending on the direction of the COO group in the phenyl benzoate wing, core-fluorination, temperature, and the terminal alkyl chain length, cybotactic nematic and lamellar (smectic) LC phases were observed. The coherence length of the ferroelectric fluctuations increases continuously with decreasing temperature and adopts antipolar correlation upon the condensation into superparaelectric states of the paraelectric smectic phases. Finally, long-range polar order develops at distinct phase transitions; first leading to polarization modulated and then to nonmodulated antiferroelectric smectic phases. Conglomerates of chiral domains were observed in the high permittivity ranges of the synclinic tilted paraelectric smectic phases of these achiral molecules, indicating mirror symmetry breaking. Fine-tuning of the molecular structure leads to photoresponsive bent-core (BC)LCs exhibiting a fast and reversible photoinduced change of the mode of the switching between ferroelectric- and antiferroelectric-like as well as a light-induced switching between an achiral and a spontaneous mirror-symmetry-broken LC phase. 相似文献

Two polarization fluoroimmunoassays for the screening of amphetamine and methamphetamine in urine were adapted for use with the Abbott TDx-Analyzer running in the automatic mode. The detection limits of amphetamine and methamphetamine in 10 μl of urine were 0.03 and 0.05 mg l?1, respectively. These assays were specific for the determination of amphetamine (cross-reactivity with methamphetamine 1%) or for the determination of methamphetamine (cross-reactivity with amphetamine 2.5%). The stability of the properties of the composite 40 vol % La0.6Sr0.4MnO3 ? δ-60 vol % Zr0.83Y0.17O1.92 (LSM-YSZ) held for 1000 h at a temperature of 800°C and an oxygen pressure of 1.01 kPa and changes in its microstructure were studied by isotope exchange and gas-phase analysis. The oxygen exchange was found to occur by the dissociative adsorption mechanism involving the adsorption forms of oxygen on the triple-phase LSM-YSZ-O2 boundary. The rate-determining step of the oxygen exchange of the composite did not change with time. The rate of oxygen exchange decreased by 22%, which is comparable to the decrease in the length of the LSM-YSZ-O2 triple-phase boundary (~20%), on which oxygen exchange is dominant. The conductivity of the LSM-YSZ composite increased due to the connectivity of the material. 相似文献

This brief overview summarises the immunoassay-based results obtained in the course of two years of the European INCO-Copernicus project BIOTOOLS. The project is aimed at simplifying the procedures for detection of surface active compounds (SAC) using, among others, antibody-based methods, i.e., microtiter plate-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), polarisation fluoro immunoassays (PFIA), and enzyme flow injection immunoassays (FIIA). Thirty-three rabbits were immunised with five different sulphophenyl moieties and three p-hydroxyphenyl moieties conjugated to protein immunogens to produce analytical antibodies against linear alkylbenzene sulphonates (LAS) and nonylphenol (NP). Although most of the antibodies exhibited binding reaction in indirect ELISA, only a few showed the required assay sensitivity. The best antibodies for LAS exhibited a 50% binding inhibition at IC50 19.8 microg L(-1) in indirect ELISA. Similar inhibition was observed for direct ELISA using peroxidase tracers. Antibodies against NP allowed the establishment of an indirect assay operating in the mg L(-1) range. A rapid and simple protocol for the screening of NP and LAS using homogeneous PFIA is described. The assay time for 10 samples was 7 minutes, thus allowing fast detection of the selected SAC at the mg L(-1) level. A generic competitive FIIA system, using a protein G column for separation of free and antibody-bound beta-galactosidase (beta-Gal) tracer, was developed for the screening of LAS, NP, and nonylphenol decaethoxylate (NPEO10). The FIIA had a sample throughput (STP) of 5-10 samples per hour, with limits of detection (LOD) for LAS, NP, and NPEO10 of 19.5, 52, and 2.4 microg L(-1), respectively. Structural models of the α, β, and γ modifications of Nb5Si3 silicides, which are used as a reinforcing phase in composites obtained in situ based on the Nb?Si system, have been constructed by computer simulation methods. A geometric analysis of unit cells is performed using the H-poisk program to estimate the voids existing in the structures. The results of measuring the number of voids and their sizes are reported. A conclusion about possible diffusion paths of interstitial boron, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms is drawn based on the calculation results, and the solubility of these impurities in the structure of each Nb5Si3 modification is estimated. 相似文献

Based on an analysis of the signal of an interferometric intensity autocorrelator, we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally a simple technique for retrieving the temporal distributions of the amplitude and phase of an ultrashort light pulse. Assuming that a phase-modulated wave packet has a Gaussian envelope, we derive an analytical expression for the autocorrelator signal in the cases of linear- and quadratic-chirp optical pulses. The experimental and theoretical results are in excellent agreement. In particular, we show that a linear chirp (quadratic phase modulation) can be measured with a good experimental accuracy of no worse than 10%. This yields the possibility of measuring the parameter k2, which describes the dispersion characteristics of a medium in the second order of the dispersion theory, with the same accuracy. Measuring a quadratic chirp by the proposed method is possible only if such a chirp is sufficiently large. 相似文献
