On nonspecular “total internal reflection” of powerful electromagnetic waves

It is shown that the nonstable character of nonlinear interaction of a system of waves similar to that resulting from double stimulated Brillouin scattering is retained upon the oblique incidence of a powerful electromagnetic wave on a layer of supercritical plasma. In this case we have nonlinear back reflection from a layer of supercritical plasma. The threshold intensity of the pump wave is greater than that in the case of subcritical plasma for TE polarization waves but can markedly decrease for waves polarized in the incidence plane. Boundary-value problems for an elliptic equation with complex coefficients and a certain moment problem

Elliptic systems of two second-order equations, which can be written as a single equation with complex coefficients and a homogeneous operator, are studied. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the connection of traces of a solution are obtained for an arbitrary bounded domain with a smooth boundary. These conditions are formulated in the form of a certain moment problem on the boundary of a domain; they are applied to the study of boundary-value problems. In particular, it is shown that the Dirichlet problem and the Neumann problem are solvable only together. In the case where the domain is a disk, the indicated moment problem is solved together with the Dirichlet problem and the Neumann problem. On the integrability of hyperbolic systems of riccati-type equations

We consider equations of the form U_xy = U * U_x, where U(x, y) is a function taking values in an arbitrary finite-dimensional algebra T over the field ℂ. We show that every such equation can be naturally associated with two characteristic Lie algebras, L_x and L_y. We define the notion of a ℤ-graded Lie algebraB corresponding to a given equation. We prove that for every equation under consideration, the corresponding algebraB can be taken as a direct sum of the vector spaces L_x and L_y if we define the commutators of the elements from L_x and L_y by means of the zero-curvature relations. Assuming that the algebra T has no left ideals, we classify the equations of the specified type associated with the finite-dimensional characteristic Lie algebras L_x and L_y. Solution of the Problem of Convecitve Heat Exchange for A Two-Dimensional Body in A Low-Prandtl-Number Fluid Flow

It is shown that the exact solution of the problem of convective heat exchange in a low-Prandtl-number fluid flow (Pr ? 1) can be obtained for a two-dimensional body of arbitrary shape provided that the conformal mapping relating the body contour with a circle is known. By way of example, the Joukowsky airfoil is considered.     

On finite convolutions of singular distributions and a “singular analog” of the Jessen-Wintner theorem

We study the fractal properties of a convolution of two Cantor distributions. By using the method of characteristic functions, we establish sufficient conditions for the singularity of the convolution of an arbitrary finite number of distributions of random variables with independent s-adic digits. We disprove the hypothesis on the validity of a “singular analog” of the Jessen-Wintner theorem for anomalously fractal distributions.
