Developing a procedure for calculating physical processes in combined schemes of plasma magneto–inertial confinement

A combined scheme of hot plasma confinement is proposed, and laser and plasma-based methods for generating a megagauss field during the implosion of a magnetized target are described that allow the development of new high-density plasma sources for materials science experiments and advanced areas of power engineering. A procedure for numerical calculation of the physical processes involved in the target plasma in an external magnetic field is presented.     

Simulation of the External Magnetic Field Effect on Fusion Plasma

Issues of numerical simulation of an experiment on compression and heating of a target in a magnetic field are discussed. It is found that the applied magnetic field predominantly increases the plasma lifetime and plasma jet characteristics (velocity, Mach number, density, etc.). An analysis of the effects of the application of an external magnetic field on the behavior of plasma-driven guns (plasma jets) and laser-driven systems (laser beams) is carried out. Thermodynamic questions in simulation of experiments on magnetic inertial synthesis are touched upon.     

Measurement of quasi-isentropic compressibility of helium and deuterium at pressures of 1500–2000 GPa

The quasi-isentropic compressibility of helium and deuterium plasmas at pressures of up to 1500?C2000 GPa has been measured using devices with spherical geometry and an X-ray diagnostic complex comprising three betatrons and a multichannel imaging system with electro-optic gamma detectors. A deuterium density of 4.5 g/cm³ and a helium density of 3.8 g/cm³ have been obtained at pressures of 2210 and 1580 GPa, respectively. The internal energy of a deuterium plasma at the indicated pressure is about 1 MJ/cm³, which is about 100 times greater than the specific energy of condensed chemical explosives. Analysis of the obtained data shows that the degree of helium ionization under the achieved plasma compression parameters is about 0.9.

On simplexes inscribed in the minor arc of a curve

On an arc L of length h, of class Cⁿ, and in Euclidean Eⁿ, the set of n+1 points (the partition of the arc) P={0, ₁ h, , _n–1h, h}, 0<₁<<_n–1<1 determines a simplex S_h(P) inscribed in the arc. For its volume V_h(P) we evaluate lim and prove that its greatest value is obtained for a unique choice of P=P_cr.
