Investigation of convection in the solution zone at the growth of CdTe by THM

An investigation of the axial temperature distribution in the solution zone at THM growth of CdTe is presented. The results support the assumption, that density differences coused by concentration differences there are a substantial contribution to convection in the zone. The concentration Rayleigh-number and the needed concentration expansion coefficient of the real experimental condition are estimated.     

Crystal growth of PbTe and (Pb,Sn)Te by the bridgman method and by THM

Synthesis and growth of PbTe and (Pb, Sn)Te single crystals by the Bridgman method and by the Travelling Heater Method (THM) from Te-rich solutions are described. It is to be seen from comparative investigations that seeded THM growth reproducibly provides oriented single-crystalline ingots free of low-angle grain boundaries and with etch pit densities of 8–12 × 10⁴ cm⁻². All the materials were p-type with carrier concentrations from 1 to 2 × 10¹⁸ cm⁻³.     

Quantum protocol for cheat-sensitive weak coin flipping

We present a quantum protocol for the task of weak coin flipping. We find that, for one choice of parameters in the protocol, the maximum probability of a dishonest party winning the coin flip if the other party is honest is 1/sqrt[2]. We also show that if parties restrict themselves to strategies wherein they cannot be caught cheating, their maximum probability of winning can be even smaller. As such, the protocol offers additional security in the form of cheat sensitivity.     

Classification of Gauge Orbit Types for SU(n)-Gauge Theories

A method for determining the orbit types of the action of the group of gauge transformations on the space of connections for gauge theories with gauge group SU(n) in spacetime dimension d4 is presented. The method is based on the one-to-one correspondence between orbit types and holonomy-induced reductions of the underlying principal SU(n)-bundle. It is shown that the orbit types are labelled by certain cohomology elements of spacetime satisfying two relations. Thus, for every principal SU(n)-bundle the corresponding stratification of the gauge orbit space can be explicitly determined. As an application, a criterion characterizing kinematical nodes for physical states in Yang–Mills theory with the Chern–Simons term proposed by Asorey et al. is discussed.     

First identification of excited states in 59Zn

Excited states in ⁵⁹Zn were observed for the first time following the fusion-evaporation reaction ²⁴Mg + ⁴⁰Ca at a beam energy of 60 MeV. The GASP array in conjunction with the ISIS Silicon ball and the NeutronRing allowed for the detection of γ-rays in coincidence with evaporated light particles. The mirror symmetry of ⁵⁹Zn and ⁵⁹Cu is discussed. Full-field characterization of femtosecond pulses by spectrum and cross-correlation measurements

We present a practical and accurate technique for retrieving the amplitude and the phase of ultrashort pulses from a nonlinear (second-order) intensity cross correlation and the spectrum that overcomes shortcomings of previous attempts. We apply the algorithm to theoretical and experimental data and compare it with frequency-resolved optical gating.
