We present a complete systematics (excitation functions and system-size dependences) of global stopping and side flow for heavy ion reactions in the energy range between 0.09A and 1.93A GeV. For the heaviest system, Au+Au, we observe a plateau of maximal stopping extending from about 0.2A to 0.8A GeV with a fast drop on both sides. The degree of stopping, which is shown to remain significantly below the expectations of a full stopping scenario, is found to be highly correlated to the amount of side flow.  相似文献

A silver-nanowire cavity is functionalized with CdSe nanocrystals and optimized towards cavity quantum electrodynamics by varying the nanocrystal-nanowire distance d and cavity length L. From the modulation of the nanocrystal emission by the cavity modes a plasmon group velocity of v (gr) approximately 0.5c is derived. Efficient exciton-plasmon-photon conversion and guiding is demonstrated along with a modification in the spontaneous emission rate of the coupled exciton-plasmon system.  相似文献

We study electron-positron pair creation from the Dirac vacuum induced by a strong and slowly varying electric field (Schwinger effect) which is superimposed by a weak and rapidly changing electromagnetic field (dynamical pair creation). In the subcritical regime where both mechanisms separately are strongly suppressed, their combined impact yields a pair creation rate which is dramatically enhanced. Intuitively speaking, the strong electric field lowers the threshold for dynamical particle creation--or, alternatively, the fast electromagnetic field generates additional seeds for the Schwinger mechanism. These findings could be relevant for planned ultrahigh intensity lasers.  相似文献

The electron-hole liquid has been found in strained SiGe thin films of Si/Si1?x Gex/Si heterostructures. The density and binding energy of the electron-hole liquid have been determined. Owing to the presence of internal strains in the SiGe layer, the density and binding energy are significantly smaller than the respective quantities for the electron-hole liquid in a bulk single crystal of the solid solution of the same composition. The critical temperature of the transition from the exciton gas to the electron-hole liquid is estimated using the experimental data. The Mott transition (from the exciton gas to electron-hole plasma) occurs above the critical temperatures for high excitation intensities.  相似文献

Starting from the instability diagram of a traffic flow model, we derive conditions for the occurrence of congested traffic states, their appearance, their spreading in space and time, and the related increase in travel times. We discuss the terminology of traffic phases and give empirical evidence for the existence of a phase diagram of traffic states. In contrast to previously presented phase diagrams, it is shown that “widening synchronized patterns” are possible, if the maximum flow is located inside of a metastable density regime. Moreover, for various kinds of traffic models with different instability diagrams it is discussed, how the related phase diagrams are expected to approximately look like. Apart from this, it is pointed out that combinations of on- and off-ramps create different patterns than a single, isolated on-ramp.  相似文献

Renewables will soon dominate energy production in our electric power system. And yet, how to integrate renewable energy into the grid and the market is still a subject of major debate. Decentral Smart Grid Control (DSGC) was recently proposed as a robust and decentralized approach to balance supply and demand and to guarantee a grid operation that is both economically and dynamically feasible. Here, we analyze the impact of network topology by assessing the stability of essential network motifs using both linear stability analysis and basin volume for delay systems. Our results indicate that if frequency measurements are averaged over sufficiently large time intervals, DSGC enhances the stability of extended power grid systems. We further investigate whether DSGC supports centralized and/or decentralized power production and find it to be applicable to both. However, our results on cycle-like systems suggest that DSGC favors systems with decentralized production. Here, lower line capacities and lower averaging times are required compared to those with centralized production.  相似文献

A molecular-dynamics method for the simulation of the intrinsicmigration behavior of individual, flat grain boundaries is introducedand validated. A constant driving force for grain-boundary migrationis generated by imposing an anisotropic elastic strain on a bicrystalsuch that the elastic-energy densities in its two halves aredifferent. For the model case of a large-planar-unit-cell, high-angle(001) twist boundary in Cu we show that an elastic strain of1%–4% is sufficient to drive thecontinuous, viscous movement of the boundary at temperatures wellbelow the melting point. The driving forces thus generated (at thehigh end of the experimentally accessible range) enable aquantitative evaluation of the migration process during the timeframe of 10-9 s typically accessible bymolecular-dynamics simulation. For this model high-angle grainboundary we demonstrate that (a) the drift velocity is, indeed,proportional to the applied driving force thus enabling us todetermine the boundary mobility, (b) the activation energy forgrain-boundary migration is distinctly lower than that forgrain-boundary self-diffusion or even self-diffusion in the melt and(c) in agreement with earlier simulations the migration mechanisminvolves the collective reshuffling during local disordering(melting) of small groups of atoms and subsequentresolidification onto the other crystal.  相似文献

Fast atoms with energies from 300 eV up to 1.7 keV are scattered under a grazing angle of incidence from a clean and flat Ni(1 1 0) surface. For scattering under ”axial surface channeling” conditions, we observe – as reported recently for insulator and semiconductor surfaces – defined diffraction patterns in the angular intensity distributions for scattered fast 3He and 4He atoms. We have investigated the domain of scattering conditions where decoherence phenomena are sufficiently small in order to observe for metal targets quantum scattering of fast atomic projectiles. As a consequence, fast atom diffraction appears to be a general technique with a wide range of applicability in surface science.  相似文献
