Lightly crosslinked nitrated poly(4-hydroxystyrene) microspheres were prepared for pH sensing. The first step is to prepare poly(4-acetoxystyrene) microspheres using porous glass membrane emulsification followed by suspension polymerization. The resulting microspheres have diameters between 1 and 2 μm. They hydrolyzed to poly(4-hydroxystyrene) by exposing them to base. This is followed by nitration to nitric acid. The percentage of nitrogen depends on the nitration conditions. Percentages greater than the theoretical percentage for mononitro poly(4-hydroxystyrene) can be obtained at elevated temperatures indicating partial dinitration. These microspheres were cast into hydrogel membranes for use as pH sensors. The membrane is turbid because the refractive index of the microspheres is higher than the hydrogel refractive index. At high pH, deprotonation of the hydroxyl group introduces a negative charge onto the polymer backbone causing it to swell. Swelling is accompanied by a decrease in microsphere refractive index, which is detected as a decrease in membrane turbidity. 相似文献

Summary While the reaction of the 4-oxo-Neu 5 Ac derivative2 a with tributoxy methyl zirconate led exclusively to equatorial 4-C-methyl derivative3 a, the analogous reaction with tetramethyl zirconate yielded a 3:2 mixture of both diastereoisomeres3 a and4 a. 2ZrCl2. Subsequent hydrogenation led to both epimeric 4-deoxy-4-C-methyl derivatives8 a and9 a. Final removal of protecting groups gave the 5-acetamido-3,4,5-trideoxy-4-C-methyl-D-glycero-D-galacto-2-nonulosonic acid10 a respectively the 5-acetamido-2,7-anhydro-4-C-methyl-3,4,5-trideoxy-D-glycero-D-talo-2-nonulosonic acid11 a. The -methylketosides of the 4-deoxy-4-C-methyl- (16) and 4-C-methylene-Neu 5 Ac (15) were prepared via the peracetylated derivatives to obtain modell substrates for enzymatic studies. Thus all free acids were tested for inhibition of CMP-sialate synthease. Only the 4-C-methylene compound15 showed most unexpectedly a strong competitive inhibition of this enzyme.

Summary The selectivity of a new magnesium ionophore (ETH 7025) induced in membranes of different compositions is experimentally studied in view of the ion activities in human serum. For symmetry-constrained boranes B10H, B12H, and their valence isoelectronic analogues containing a single hetero atom, completely optimized geometries were obtained using Hartree–Fock SCF calculations with the 3-21G and 6-31G* basis sets. For the anionic and dianionic species, the geometry optimization was also carried out using the 6-31 + G* basis set. Harmonic vibrational frequencies were obtained at HF/3-21G level. Germanane (GeH), a germanium analogue of graphane, has recently attracted considerable interest because its remarkable combination of properties makes it an extremely suitable candidate to be used as 2D material for field effect devices, photovoltaics, and photocatalysis. Up to now, the synthesis of GeH has been conducted by substituting Ca by H in a β‐CaGe2 layered Zintl phase through topochemical deintercalation in aqueous HCl. This reaction is generally slow and takes place over 6 to 14 days. The new and facile protocol presented here allows to synthesize GeH at room temperature in a significantly shorter time (a few minutes), which renders this method highly attractive for technological applications. The GeH produced with this method is highly pure and has a band gap (Eg) close to 1.4 eV, a lower value than that reported for germanane synthesized using HCl, which is promising for incorporation of GeH in solar cells. 相似文献

Terminology of electrodes and electrode materials used in supercapacitors as well as naming of electrode processes and devices prepared with these electrodes is confusing and rather unregulated. Consequently, misunderstanding in communication about research and development is somehow matched with an incomplete understanding of the reasons of the observed capacitive, pseudocapacitive, or Faradaic behavior. Observed and investigated phenomena relevant for supercapacitor electrodes are briefly reviewed and explained in terms of electrode processes and interfacial phenomena.
