Effect of a permeable partition on convective instability in a rectangular cavity

The equilibrium stability of a fluid, heated from below, in a rectangular cavity with a vertical permeable partition is investigated. The small perturbation problem is solved by the Galerkin-Kantorovich method. The relations obtained for the dependence of the critical Rayleigh numbers on the partition parameters and the cavity dimensions make it possible to identify regions in which either even or odd perturbations, sensitive to only the normal or only the tangential resistance of the partition, respectively, are responsible for equilibrium crisis. Formation of the σ-acetonyl Pt(IV) complex in the reaction of iodoacetone with PtCl 4 2− in aqueous solution

Conclusions The reaction of K₂PtCl₄ with iodoacetone in aqueous solution at about 20C gives the -acetonyl Pt(IV) complex which is more stable to the action of nucleophilic reagents than the analogous methyl and ethyl complexes.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 7, pp. 1657–1660, July, 1984.     

Cross-sections for deuteron photo-disintegration from 139 to 832 MeV

The cross-sections for deuteron photo-disintegration have been measured at nine c.m. angles from 37 to 143 degrees. The minimum and maximum photon energies have been 139 and 832 MeV respectively. The results are in agreement with earlier data above 300 MeV, but are significantly larger below 200 MeV, the discrepancies being up to 50% at the lowest energies measured.     

Electrochemically catalyzed cleavage of carbon-carbon bond The intermediate formation of metal—Carbene complexes

This paper descirbes a polarographic method for the determination of the formation constant for the binding of molecular oxygen with several cobalt(II) Schiff-base complexes. The method consists of determining, from the polarographic diffusion current for the reduction of the oxygenated complex, the oxygen partial pressure at which half of the complex is oxygenated. At this point, the partial pressure determined with a Clark-type membrane electrode is equal to the reciprocal of the formation constant, K_oxy, for the oxygenated species. K_oxy values of 0.128, 0.162 and 0.178 Torr^?1 were obtained for the Co(II) SALEN, SALOPH and 3-methoxySALEN complexes, respectively, at 0° C in pyridine. This method can be used to determine K_oxy values as large as 2.0 Torr^?1 with an estimated uncertainty of 5–10%, based on the uncertainty of the oxygen electrode measurement.
