Enzymatic hydrolysis of heterocyclic nitriles

Chemoselective hydrolysis of heterocyclic nitriles can be achieved by an easy to use immobilized biocatalyst prepared from Rhodococcus sp. Pyrimidine-2-carbonitrile ( 2a ) and 3-chloropyridazine-4-carbonitrile ( 4a ) were converted into the corresponding amides while from 2-ethoxycarbonyl-4-pyridinecarbonitrile ( 1a ), 6-methylpyridazine-3-carbonitrile ( 3a ), 3-chloropyridazine-4-carbonitrile ( 4a ), 3-ethoxycarbonyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazole-5-carbonitrile ( 8a ), indole-3-carbonitrile ( 9a ) and indole-3-ylacetonitrile ( 10a ) the acids were formed.     

Characterization of beam-induced reactions occurring in liquid secondary ion mass spectrometry/fast-atom bombardment by tandem mass spectrometry

Department of General and Physical Chemistry, University of Liege, Liege, Belgium A specific beam-induced secondary reaction involving the condensation of hydroxylic matrices with some organic groups (aldehydes, ketones, etc.) accompanied by the loss of a water molecule was investigated by liquid secondary ion mass spectrometry/fast-atom bombardment (LSIMS/FAB). A mechanistic scheme and a structure of the induced product are proposed. The features of this secondary reaction were studied and the influence of the types of solutes, acidic additives, and matrices analyzed. Rather than a drawback, LSIMS/FAB mass spectrometry can take advantage of this matrix effect to infer analytical information through tandem mass spectrometry experiments. Specific neutral loss scans can be conducted to highlight beam-induced reactive molecules, even when the detection of these species is prevented in normal scan spectra by other surface-active components.     

KINETICS OF LUMINESCENCE QUENCHING IN MICELLAR ASSEMBLIES INCLUDING EXCHANGE OF PROBE and QUENCHER*

The luminescence decay of excited probes in micelles in the presence of a Poisson distribution of quenchers is considered under conditions where both probe and quencher within the lifetime of the excited probe may exchange between the micelles. Analytical and numerical results show that the luminescence decay can be expressed by a generalized self convolution product of a multiexponential decay function.
