ESR investigations of electron-beam irradiated cellulose nitrate

Electron spin resonance investigations on an electron-beam irradiated solid state nuclear track detector, based on cellulose nitrate (KODAK LR-311), are reported. The nature of free radicals induced in polymers by irradiation is discussed. The dependence of resonance spectral parameters on irradiation times, as well as on storage time and temperature, is studied. The experimental results are related to the stability of latent tracks and it is concluded that the free radicals induced by irradiation are located within the latent tracks. We have shown that both latent track and free radical thermal fading obey an Arrheniuslike dependence, with the same activation energy.

An Interactive Multigoal Programming Model for Determining Livestock Rations: an Application to Dairy Cows in Andalusia,Spain

This paper addresses an important problem in the field of livestock ration formulation: the rigidity of the right-hand sides of the model. Thus, instead of considering the nutritional requirements as fixed values they are considered as targets which may or may not be achieved. In this way a multigoal programming model is formulated. The preferences of the ration-formulator are elicited resorting to the interactive method proposed by Zionts and Wallenius. The approach proposed is applied to a ration formulation problem for dairy cows in the Pedroches Valley in Andalusia, Spain.     

Transverse momentum of charged hadrons produced in ν and\bar v deuterium charged current interactions

The transverse momentum properties of charged hadrons produced in charged current ν and \(\bar v\) deuterium interactions are studied. The variation of <P _t ² > withW ²,Q ²,x _F andz ² is analyzed. A study of transverse momentum balance shows that soft gluon emission and some quark primordial transverse momentum with <k _t ² >?(0.4 GeV/c)² are needed to balance highp _t particles. Distributions ofp _tin andP _tout in and out of the event plane are presented. A three jet structure is observed for events withW ²>50 (GeV²) and with a highp _t track, which is compatible with models taking into account hard gluon emission.     

AlPO4?Al2O3 catalysts with low alumina content, VII. Anisole conversion in the presence of methanol

The conversion of anisole in the presence of methanol (anisole/methanol molar ratio=4) over AlPO₄–Al₂O₃ (5–15 wt.% Al₂O₃) catalysts gave a mixture of dealkylated and C-alkylated products (C-alkylation preferentially inortho-position) in which dealkylation to phenol always predominated. The catalytic activity, which increased with alumina content and decreased on increasing the calcination temperature from 773 to 1073 K, was fairly well related to the change in surface acidic characteristics. Furthermore, anisole conversion followed the requirements of the Bassett-Habgood kinetic treatment for first order processes, with a single common interaction mechanism and, consequently, a common transition state for all catalysts. Poisoning by pyridine and 2,6-dimethylpyridine confirmed that anisole conversion occurs on acid sites.
