The isolation and amino acid sequence of substance P from horse intestine is reported. The sequence, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH₂ is identical with the sequence reported for substance P isolated from bovine hypothalami.     

Enantioselektive Reaktionen an porphinoiden Nickelkomplexen

Enantioselective Reactions on Porphine Type Nickel Complexes The thermodynamically controlled addition of alcohols to (+)-(1R)-[1-methyl-8H-HDP]nickelperchlorate ( 1 ; e.e. 92%) yields exclusively the corresponding cis-1,11-disubstituted porphinoids. Chemical transformation of functional groups in the alkoxy side-chain of the chiral addition product followed by acid catalyzed elimination yields the derived alcohols and 1 . By this procedure, the following enantioselective transformations were studied: methylation of meso-2,3-butandiol ( 5 ) to (+)-(2R,3S)-3-methoxy-2-butanol ( 8a ; e.e. 87%), diimide reduction of 2-ethylallyl alcohol ( 9 ) to (+)-(2R)-2-methyl-1-butanol ( 12a ; e.e. 15%), and hydride reduction of 4-hydroxy-2-butanone ( 13 ) to (+)-(3S)-1,3-butandiol ( 16a ; e.e. 20%). Addition of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propandiol ( 17 ) to 4 , followed by esterification of the free hydroxy group with trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride and solvolysis of the sulfonate 19 yielded a bridged complex with unrearranged alkyl chain for which structure 20 is proposed.     

The Interaction of Walsh-Orbitols in Diademane and Related Hydrocarbons

To obtain further information concerning the interaction between Walsh-orbitols of ‘conjugated’ cyclopropane rings, the photoelectron spectra of the following compounds have been recorded: bicyclo[4.1.0]heptane 1 , cis- and trans-tricyclo[5.1.0^{3, 5}]octane 2, 3 , diademane 4 , trans-pentacyclo[3.3.2.0^{2, 9}.0^{4, 10}, 0^{6, 8}]decan 5 and bicyclo[4.1.0]heptene-2 6 . The first bands in the PE.-spectra of these compounds have been assigned on the basis of a ZDO HMO-approximation. For 2 and 4 the value for resonance integral between linked 2p atomic orbitals of two adjacent eclipsed cyclopropane rings is found to be ?1.73 eV.     

Formation of Ad-Layers and Clusters on Condensation of Metal Vapors on Solid Surfaces

Synthesis of organometallic materials can be accomplished in many cases by cocondensation of metal atoms and organic molecules at low temperatures. The reaction kinetics is determined by the competition between metal cluster growth and formation of the organometallic compound. Interesting compounds may contain one or more metal atoms; the latter type could be obtained by reaction between a cluster containing the desired number of metal atoms and an organic molecule. A precise knowledge of the events occurring on condensation of metal atoms and cluster formation can therefore be of value in the control of chemical synthesis. These phenomena have been investigated in connection with the study of the growth of thin metallic films, both experimentally and theoretically. Direct observation of the formation of very small clusters is difficult. The good agreement between experimental results and recent calculations for the development of large clusters, however, allows reliable theoretical conclusions for the first stages of adsorption and cluster formation. The present contribution describes experimental work on film growth and relevant theoretical concepts, and an attempt is made to develop applications to organometallic synthesis.

An investigation has been carried out on the influence of the velocity of voltage change, of the radius of the capillary and of the size of the electrodes on the decrease of the peak current caused by back-diffusion in anodic amalgam voltammetry.     

Dialkyldithiocarbamate als Reagentien zur gas-chromatographischen Bestimmung von Metallen

Zusammenfassung Kleine Mengen Ni, Cu und Zn in wäßrigen Lösungen können nach Ausschütteln ihrer Dipropyldithiocarbamatochelate gas-chromatographisch bestimmt werden. Arbeitsbedingungen für den 0,01–1 ppm-Bereich werden angegeben. Die Reproduzierbarkeit der Bestimmung wird durch Zusatz eines inneren Standards verbessert.

Dialkyldithiocarbamates as reagents for the gas-chromatographic determination of metalsII. Determination of zinc, copper and nickel as dipropyldithiocarbamato chelates after extraction from aqueous solution

Summary Small amounts of Ni, Cu and Zn in aqueous solutions can be determined by gas chromatography after extraction of their dipropyldithiocarbamatochelates. Working details for the 0.01–1 ppm range are reported. Reproducibility is markedly improved by addition of an inner standard.

The crystal and molecular structure of the cycloadduct from an activated carbodiimide and methyl isothiocyanate

The crystal and molecular structures of the cycloadduct from isopropyl[α-(dimethylthio-carbamoyl)isopropyl]carbodiimide and methyl isothiocyanate were determined by single-crystal X-ray methods. The product was established to be 2-(1-isopropyl-3,5-dimethyl-4,6-dithioxo-hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine-2-ylidenamino)-N,N-dimethylthioisoburyramide, in which contrary to expectations based on hybridisation the heterocyclic ring adopts a boat conformation.     

The Electronic Structure of Azuleno[1,2,3-cd]phenalene and Azuleno[5,6,7-cd]phenalene,a Comparison

The photoelectron (PE.) spectra of azuleno[l, 2, 3-cd]phenalene ( 1 ) and azuleno- [5,6,7-cd]phenalene( 2 ) have been recorded. The first five bands of both compounds could be assigned to transitions corresponding to removal of electrons from 4a₂, 6b₁, 5b₁, 3a₂ and 4b_l orbitals. This assignment is based mainly on a comparison between the observed ionization potentials and orbital energies calculated in a HMO and a PPP model. The UV./VIS. polarized absorption spectrum of 1 in the region 10000–45000 cm^?1 has been measured by means of the stretched film technique. The measurements were performed in polyethylene sheets at 77°K. Several bands could be assigned to π* ← π transitions calculated by a PPP-CI method. A comparison between the electronic structures of 1 and 2 is made by means of a simple HMO diagram.     

Untersuchungen zur elektrochemischen Simultanbestimmung von Blei und Zinn

Zusammenfassung Die starke Temperaturabhängigkeit des polarographischen Zinn(II/0)-Signals in Lösungen des vierwertigen Zinns ermöglicht bei –32° C in methanolischer salzsaurer Grundlösung die Bestimmung des Bleis neben hohem Zinnüberschuß. Eine Anwendung des Verfahrens zur wechselstrompolarographischen Bestimmung des Bleis in Rohzinn wird beschrieben.

Investigations on the simultaneous electrochemical determination of lead and tinII. Polarographic determination of lead in the presence of tin at lower temperatures

Summary The strong temperature dependence of the polarographic tin(II/0) signal in solutions containing tin(IV) renders possible the determination of lead in the presence of a high excess of tin at working temperatures of –32° C in hydrochloric methanol as supporting electrolyte solution. An application of the procedure to the ac-polarographic determination of lead in crude tin is described.
