Preparation and characterization of neodymium tin oxide pyrochlore nanocrystals by the hydrothermal method

Fine powder of Nd₂Sn₂O₇ nanocrystals with a phase-pure pyrochlore structure were synthesized at low temperatures (200 °C) for 12 h through the hydrothermal method in alkaline medium. The pH value of the solution was adjusted by addition of 1.0 M NaOH solution to reach 11, and basically above 11 was shown to accelerate the crystallization process. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transformed InfraRed spectra. Scanning electron microscopy was used for morphologic evolution. Furthermore, photoluminescence characterization and UV–VIS spectra of the Nd₂Sn₂O₇ pyrochlore nanocrystals showed clear luminescence and absorption peaks, and band gap energy were calculated using emission and absorption data.     

Production of single-walled carbon nanotubes from methane over Co-Mo/MgO nanocatalyst:A comparative study of fixed and fluidized bed reactors

In this study,the performances of fixed and fluidized bed reactors in the production of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs)have been investigated.In both reactors,single-walled carbon nanotubes were grown by catalytic chemical vapor decomposition(CCVD)of methane over Co-Mo/MgO nanocatalyst under two different operating conditions.The synthesized samples were characterized by TEM,TGA and Raman spectroscopy.It is found that the performance of a fluidized bed in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes is much better than that of a fixed bed.The quality of carbon nanotubes obtained from the fluidized bed was significantly higher than that from the fixed bed and the former one with the ID/IG ratio of 0.11 while the latter one with the ID/IG ratio of 0.71.Also,the yield of SWNTs in the fluidized bed was 92 wt%,while it was 78 wt%in the fixed bed.These advantages of fluidized bed reactors for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes can be attributed to more available space for the growth of carbon nanotubes and more uniform temperature and concentration profiles.     

Synthesis of 1,5‐Disubstituted 1H‐Tetrazole Derivatives via a Three‐Component Reaction of Carbodiimides,Isocyanides, and Trimethylsilyl Azide

The three‐component reaction of isocyanides 1 , carbodiimides 2 , and trimethylsilyl azide ( 3 ) occurs at room temperature, and the produced 1,5‐disubstituted 1H‐tetrazole derivatives 4 are formed in 81–98% yields (Scheme 1, Table). The reaction proceeds smoothly and cleanly under mild conditions, and no side reactions are observed.     

Polyphenol-Enriched Blueberry Preparation Controls Breast Cancer Stem Cells by Targeting FOXO1 and miR-145

Scientific evidence supports the early deregulation of epigenetic profiles during breast carcinogenesis. Research shows that cellular transformation, carcinogenesis, and stemness maintenance are regulated by epigenetic-specific changes that involve microRNAs (miRNAs). Dietary bioactive compounds such as blueberry polyphenols may modulate susceptibility to breast cancer by the modulation of CSC survival and self-renewal pathways through the epigenetic mechanism, including the regulation of miRNA expression. Therefore, the current study aimed to assay the effect of polyphenol enriched blueberry preparation (PEBP) or non-fermented blueberry juice (NBJ) on the modulation of miRNA signature and the target proteins associated with different clinical-pathological characteristics of breast cancer such as stemness, invasion, and chemoresistance using breast cancer cell lines. To this end, 4T1 and MB-MDM-231 cell lines were exposed to NBJ or PEBP for 24 h. miRNA profiling was performed in breast cancer cell cultures, and RT-qPCR was undertaken to assay the expression of target miRNA. The expression of target proteins was examined by Western blotting. Profiling of miRNA revealed that several miRNAs associated with different clinical-pathological characteristics were differentially expressed in cells treated with PEBP. The validation study showed significant downregulation of oncogenic miR-210 expression in both 4T1 and MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to PEBP. In addition, expression of tumor suppressor miR-145 was significantly increased in both cell lines treated with PEBP. Western blot analysis showed a significant increase in the relative expression of FOXO1 in 4T1 and MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to PEBP and in MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to NBJ. Furthermore, a significant decrease was observed in the relative expression of N-RAS in 4T1 and MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to PEBP and in MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to NBJ. Our data indicate a potential chemoprevention role of PEBP through the modulation of miRNA expression, particularly miR-210 and miR-145, and protection against breast cancer development and progression. Thus, PEBP may represent a source for novel chemopreventative agents against breast cancer.     

Synthesis of some fluorinated thiazolopyridine from pentafluoropyridine and 4-phenylsulfonyl tetrafluoropyridine

In this study, the reaction of pentafluoropyridine and 4-phenylsulfonyl tetrafluoropyridine with difunctional nitrogen and sulfur nucleophiles such as thiourea, thioamide derivatives, and unsymmetrical bidentate nitrogen nucleophiles such as diamino-triazole and amino-imidazole in the presence of sodium carbonate was investigated.     

Oxidation of benzoins to benzils in the presence of porphyrin sensitizers by air and sunlight or visible light

In this work, two new aerobic routes are introduced for the oxidation of a variety of benzoins to benzils by using molecular oxygen in the presence of porphyrins as sensitizers, using white light or sunlight in acetonitrile under mild conditions. The methods have a wide range of applications, do not involve cumbersome work-up, exhibit chemoselectivity and proceed under mild reaction conditions. The resulting products are obtained in good yields in a reasonable time.     

Linear time optimal approaches for reverse obnoxious center location problems on networks

This paper is concerned with a reverse obnoxious (undesirable) center location problem on networks in which the aim is to modify the edge lengths within an associated budget such that a predetermined facility location on the underlying network becomes as far as possible from the existing customer points under the new edge lengths. Exact combinatorial algorithms with linear time complexities are developed for the problem under the weighted rectilinear norm and the weighted Hamming distance. Furthermore, it is shown that the problem with integer decision variables can also be solved in linear time.     

Efficient and selective oxidation of alcohols in water employing palladium supported nanomagnetic Fe3O4@hyperbranched polyethylenimine (Fe3O4@HPEI.Pd) as a new organic–inorganic hybrid nanocatalyst

Palladium immobilized magnetic nanoFe₃O₄@hyperbranched polyethylenimine (Fe₃O₄@HPEI.Pd) was prepared according to a simple and cost effective pathway and it was employed as a new efficient and selective organic–inorganic hybrid nanocatalyst for the aqueous oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to their corresponding products in good yields applying oxone (potassium hydrogen monopersulfate) and H₂O₂ as an oxidant at room temperature. Moreover, the catalytic system was reused at least 13 times without significant loss of activity. The complete characterization of this efficient nanocatalyst was investigated by FTIR, UV–Vis, TEM, SEM, XRD, TGA, VSM, ICP and EDX techniques.
