Towards experiments with highly charged ions at HESR

The atomic physics collaboration SPARC is a part of the APPA pillar at the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research. It aims at atomic-physics research across virtually the full range of atomic matter. An emphasis of this contribution are the atomic physics experiments addressing the collision dynamics in strong electro-magnetic fields as well as the fundamental interactions between electrons and heavy nuclei at the HESR. Here we give a short overview about the central instruments for SPARC experiments at this storage ring.     

Error estimates of proper orthogonal decomposition eigenvectors and Galerkin projection for a general dynamical system arising in fluid models

We study estimates for proper orthogonal decomposition eigenvectors and eigenvalues as well as error estimates between the exact solution of a 2D Navier–Stokes model and the numerical approach when the proper orthogonal decomposition method is considered. These estimates are also extended when bifurcation diagram are calculated using the so called p-POD or SPOD methods with a new cut-off criterion to minimize noisy modes produced by the p-POD method.     

Convergent synthesis of (2R,3R,8R,9R)-N-Boc-ADDA

The convergent synthesis of N-Boc-(2R,3R,8R,9R,4E,6E)-3-amino-9-methoxy-2,6,8-trimethyl-10-phenyldecadenoic acid (enantio-N-Boc-ADDA) is reported. Our flexible approach takes advantage of highly efficient non-aldol aldol and cross-metathesis methodologies.     

Synthesis of 5-cyanopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines in the reaction of 5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazole with arylidene derivatives of malonodinitrile and ethyl cyanoacetate

This paper describes the synthesis of a new series of 6-amino-4-aryl-5-cyanopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines 4 and 4-aryl-5-cyano-6H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-6-ones 5 from the reaction of 5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazole 1 with arylidene derivatives of malonodinitrile 2 and ethyl cyanoacetate 3 . The structure of the final compounds was determined on the basis of nmr measurements, especially by ¹H, ¹H-, ¹H, ¹³C-COSY, DEPT and X-ray diffraction.     

A consistent approach to variable bubble-point systems

Here, it is shown that the “traditional approach” to variable bubble-point problems, using black-oil models, is not consistent, because it violates the “bubble-point conservation law.” In order to have a consistent approach, it is necessary to incorporate shocks—discussed in previous papers—in which the bubble-point is discontinuous. A “consistent approach” is applied to specific examples, and results compared with those of the “traditional” one. The conclusion that the “traditional approach” generally yields large errors for the production rates and other parameters of interest in the oil industry, is reached. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
