Sample Introduction into the Inductively Coupled Plasma by Thermospray Injection

Thermospray vaporization. utilizing an electrically heated stainless steel capillary as a nebulization device. was studied as a means of sample introduction into the inductively coupled plasma. Vapor stripping thermospray vaporization. which included a heated spray chamber and condenser to remove excessive solvent vapor before injection into the plasma. resulted in an cight fold improvement in sensitivity.     

Copper(II) tetrafluroborate-promoted Meinwald rearrangement reactions of epoxides

Epoxides undergo a highly efficient Meinwald rearrangement in the presence of catalytic quantities of copper(II) tetrafluoroborate to give carbonyl compounds in high yields and with excellent selectivity. The low toxicity and ease of handling of this reagent make it an attractive alternative to the more corrosive or costly Lewis acids frequently employed.     

Determining Asymptotic Behavior from the Dynamics on Attracting Sets

Two tracking properties for trajectories on attracting sets are studied. We prove that trajectories on the full phase space can be followed arbitrarily closely by skipping from one solution on the global attractor to another. A sufficient condition for asymptotic completeness of invariant exponential attractors is found, obtaining similar results as in the theory of inertial manifolds. Furthermore, such sets are shown to be retracts of the phase space, which implies that they are simply connected.
