The 5-methoxycarbonyl group of β-enaminoesters derived from methyl pyroglutamate was transformed into acids, amides and 1,3,4-oxadiazole.

Integral representation of linear functionals on spaces of unbounded functions

Let be a vector lattice of real functions on a set with , and let be a linear positive functional on . Conditions are given which imply the representation , , for some bounded charge . As an application, for any bounded charge on a field , the dual of is shown to be isometrically isomorphic to a suitable space of bounded charges on . In addition, it is proved that, under one more assumption on , is the integral with respect to a -additive bounded charge.

     

Plasmon coupling of R6G-linked gold nanoparticle assemblies for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

This paper presents the study of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for Rhodamine 6G (R6G)-linked gold (Au) assemblies. The nano-assemblies fabricated with Au nanoparticles, having diameters (D) of ～5–40 nm, possessed interparticle gaps of ～0.03–0.2D, respectively. The R6G-linked Au assemblies displayed weak spectral shifts of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) mode at shorter wavelength region and large fractional red-shifts Δλ ～ 0.07–0.47λ_o at longer wavelength region. The resonant spectral coupling of the nano-assemblies LSPR mode at the longer wavelength region and the optical excitation at ～785 nm, in addition to the highly localized hot spots, could support the large SERS enhancement of R6G-linked Au assemblies.     

Studies on pyrrolidinones. Synthesis of 1,2,3,5,11,11a-hexahydroindolizino[7,6-b]indole-3,11-dione

Condensation of N-trimethylsilylindole with methyl N-trimethylsilyloxymethylpyroglutamate is the best method to obtain methyl N-indolylmethylpyroglutamate. Friedel-Crafts cyclization of the corresponding acid yields a new ketone (1,2,3,5,11,11a-hexahydroindolizino[7,6-b] indole-3,11-dione).     

Automated preparation of carbon-11 ethanol and carbon-11 butanol for human studies using positron emission tomography

An automated continuous flow process has been developed for the synthesis of¹¹C-ethanol and¹¹C-butanol. These alcohols were synthesized via the same route. The reaction of¹¹CO₂ with methylmagnesium bromide or with n-propylmagnesium chloride, followed by a lithium aluminum hydride reduction and hydrolysis produced respectively¹¹C-ethanol and¹¹C-butanol. Preparation can be completed in 25 min. In each case the radiochemical purity, as determined by high pressure liquid chromatography /HPLC/ was greater than 98%. Biological quality control shows that the products are suitable for human use. The process has been completely automated to limit radiation exposure to personnel, reduce preparation time, and increase reproducibility.
