Raman scattering in 3RNbS2

Raman scattering spectra on a layer type compound 3RNbS₂ were measured at 300 and 77 K, and three peaks were observed at 382, 325 and 281 cm^?1 at 300 K. The vibration modes were analyzed in terms of Bromley's nearest neighbour model, and a good agreement with the experiment was obtained.     

Satellite electron-diffraction in NbSe3 below T = 59 K

At temperatures below 59 K, coexistence of two types of satellite was observed in reciprocal lattice plane of b¹?c¹ as expressed by $\text{q}{}_1\text{= 0.24}\text{b}{}^1$ and $\text{q}{}_2\text{= 0.26}\text{b}{}^1\text{+0.50}\text{c}{}^1$. On the basis of nesting conditions by these q₁ and q₂, a feature of the Fermi surface for NbSe₃ is discussed.     

Generation of a different type of beta-kallikrein from porcine pancreatic alpha-kallikrein by the action of chymotrypsin--observation of proteolytic processing occurring around "kallikrein autolysis loop" region

The generation of a different type of beta-kallikrein, designated C beta-kallikrein, from alpha-kallikrein by chymotryptic action was ascertained by the following observations: 1) When alpha-kallikrein was incubated with chymotrypsin, an increase of esterolytic activity of kallikrein was observed. 2) In sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, C beta-kallikrein was found to be different from the beta-kallikrein obtained from alpha-kallikrein by tryptic digestion, and was designated T beta-kallikrein. 3) N-Terminal amino acid sequence analyses of internal light and heavy chains of C beta-kallikrein indicated that N-termini of the light and the heavy chains were isoleucine and lysine, respectively, and that the heavy chain had most of the "kallikrein autolysis loop" sequence in its N-terminal end. In the case of T beta-kallikrein, N-termini of the light and the heavy chains were isoleucine and alanine, respectively, and the light chain retained the "kallikrein autolysis loop" region in its C-terminal end. These observations demonstrated that C beta-kallikrein was different from the beta-kallikrein prepared from autolyzed pancreas, A beta-kallikrein, which had lost the "kallikrein autolysis loop" sequence. Structural differences of the above four kallikreins (alpha-, T beta-, C beta-, and A beta-) result in somewhat different enzyme properties. The kinetic constants for the hydrolysis of synthetic substrates (N alpha-benzoyl-L-arginine ethyl ester and N alpha-tosyl-L-arginine methyl ester) of these kallikreins differed from each other, and inhibitory profiles against alpha 1-antitrypsin were also different.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)     

Yaequinolones J1 and J2, novel insecticidal antibiotics from Penicillium sp. FKI-2140

[chemical reaction: see text]. Two novel insecticidal antibiotics with a p-methoxyphenylquinolinone skeleton fused with a pyran ring, yaequinolones J1 (1) and J2 (2), have been isolated from Penicillium sp. FKI-2140, and structures were elucidated by spectroscopic studies including various NMR experiments. The relative stereochemistries were assigned by NOE experiments. Yaequinolones J1 and J2 showed toxicity against Artemia salina (brine shrimp) with the MIC value of 6.25 microg/mL.     

High-fidelity teleportation beyond the no-cloning limit and entanglement swapping for continuous variables

We experimentally demonstrate continuous-variable quantum teleportation beyond the no-cloning limit. We teleport a coherent state and achieve the fidelity of 0.70 +/- 0.02 that surpasses the no-cloning limit of 2/3. Surpassing the limit is necessary to transfer the nonclassicality of an input quantum state. By using our high-fidelity teleporter, we demonstrate entanglement swapping, namely, teleportation of quantum entanglement, as an example of transfer of nonclassicality.     

Evidence for muon neutrino oscillation in an accelerator-based experiment

We present results for nu(mu) oscillation in the KEK to Kamioka (K2K) long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. K2K uses an accelerator-produced nu(mu) beam with a mean energy of 1.3 GeV directed at the Super-Kamiokande detector. We observed the energy-dependent disappearance of nu(mu), which we presume have oscillated to nu(tau). The probability that we would observe these results if there is no neutrino oscillation is 0.0050% (4.0 sigma).     

Search for [corrected] B0(s) --> mu+ mu- and B0(d) [corrected] --> mu + mu- decays in pp collisions with CDF II

We report on a search for B0(s) --> mu+ mu- and B0(d) --> mu + mu- decays in pp collisions at square root(s) = 1.96 TeV using 364 pb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. After applying all selection requirements, we observe no candidates inside the B0(s) or B0(d) mass windows. The resulting upper limits on the branching fractions are B(B0(s) --> mu+ mu-) < 1.5 x 10(-7) and B(B0(d) --> mu+ mu-) < 3.9 x 10(-8) at 90% confidence level.     

Search for long-lived doubly charged Higgs bosons in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.96 TeV

We present a search for long-lived doubly charged Higgs bosons (H(+/- +/-)), with signatures of high ionization energy loss and muonlike penetration. We use 292 pb(-1) of data collected in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Observing no evidence of long-lived doubly charged particle production, we exclude H(+/- +/-)(L) and H(+/- +/-)(R) bosons with masses below 133 GeV/c(2) and 109 GeV/c(2), respectively. In the degenerate case we exclude H(+/- +/-) mass below 146 GeV/c(2). All limits are quoted at the 95% confidence level.
