A newly developed interface coupling a CHN combustion device (elemental analyser 'EA') to an isotope ratio mass spectrometer is described and evaluated. The purpose of the device is to extend the dynamic range of delta(13)C and delta(15)N analysis from less than 2 orders of magnitude to more than 3 orders of magnitude. Carbon isotope ratio measurements of atropine as a model compound have been performed analysing between 1 μg to 5 mg C with acceptable to excellent precision (0.6 to 0.06 per thousand, delta-notation). The correction due to the blank signal is critical for sample amounts smaller than 4 μg C. The maximum sample weight is determined by the combustion capacity of the EA. Larger sample amounts are measured using dilution of a small part of the EA effluent with helium. The dilution mechanism works virtually free of isotope fractionation. This work explores coatings with thermally switchable wetting behavior, based on block copolymers that possess both hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments. The amphiphilic block copolymers were synthesized by coupling allyl-ended poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and hydride-ended poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) oligomers via a Pt catalyst. One near-symmetric diblock possessed an order-disorder transition temperature (TODT) of 64 °C. When cooled through TODT in ambient air, the PDMS domains wet the film's surface, producing a hydrophobic coating with a water contact angle (CA) = 90°. However, when cooled in humidified air, hydrophilic PEO domains form at the surface, yielding CA = 30–40°. The coatings can be reversibly switched between the two states by reheating above TODT, in the appropriate environment, and then cooling, rapidly generating the desired room-temperature surface wettability. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract We analyze the efficiency of the international management of the Bay of Biscay anchovy. While a sharing agreement between France and Spain has been in place since 1992, the fish stock collapsed in 2005 and the fishery closed from 2005 to spring 2010. We consider differences in production technologies between both countries and calibrate our model using data from 1987 to 2009. Our results suggest two sources of rent dissipation under the existing sharing agreement: inefficient quota allocation and production inefficiencies due to inflexible national regulations. The ever‐growing catalog of monomers being incorporated into block polymers affords exceptional control over phase behavior and nanoscale structure. The segregation strength, χN, is the fundamental link between the molecular‐level detail and the thermodynamics. However, predicting phase behavior mandates at least one experimental measurement of χN for each pair of blocks. This typically requires access to the disordered state. We describe a method for estimating χN from small‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements of the interfacial width between lamellar microdomains, tx, in the microphase‐separated melt. The segregation strength is determined by comparing tx to self‐consistent field theory calculations of the intrinsic interfacial width, ti, as a function of the mean‐field χN. The method is validated using a series of independent experimental measurements of tx and χN, measured via the order–disorder transition temperature, TODT. The average absolute relative difference between χN calculated from tx and the value calculated from TODT is a modest 11%. Corrections for nonplanarity of the interfaces are investigated but do not improve the agreement between the experiments and theory. Published 2019. The goal of this paper is to provide data that can be used in a variety of exercises ranging from kinetics in general chemistry to advanced problems in physical chemistry. The data provided relates to ozone-decay kinetics in various atmospheres (O2, N2, Ar) as measured by ultraviolet/visible absorbance spectroscopy (UV/vis) at 254 nm. The absorbance of ozone is monitored over a 75-min time period, and by using Beers law the concentration is calculated. Nine data sets, each repeated three times, of absorbance measurements are provided for student exercises, and prelaboratory and postlaboratory questions are suggested. 相似文献

A method for crystallizing oriented samples of the γ-phase of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) under atmospheric pressure in the presence of nucleating fibers has been developed. The technique uses iPP grades of high molecular weight and high isotacticity and produces a mixture of α and γ-phase crystals within the matrix of both pitch-based carbon and Kevlar®-reinforced composites. Two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) patterns from these samples show that the content of the γ-phase decreases as the fiber loading in the composites decreases, suggesting that the γ-phase is directly nucleated by the fibers. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
