Mu to Mu* transition in electron irradiated silicon

A transition from normal muonium (Mu) to anomalous muonium (Mu^*) is observed in electron irradiated silicon. It is suggested that the transformation is induced by the strain field of the defect and takes place some distance away from the defect. The experiment was performed at 15 K.     

Frequency shift and relaxation of muon-spin-precession in Cd1−xMnxTe

Transverse-field muon spin roation (μSR) is studied in Cd_1−xMn_xTe, x=0.4 and 0.6 mixed crystals. A large temperature dependent frequency shift and a strong relaxation of the μSR-signal are observed. In the vicinity of the spinglass transition, the relaxation rate becomes so large that the signal disappears. The rate of Mn spin fluctuations causing the μ⁺-line narrowing at high temperatures is estimated to be of the order of 10⁹ S⁻¹.     

Certification of the mass fractions of Pt, Pd and Rh in a used car catalyst reference material

The high economic value of catalysts containing the platinum group elements platinum, rhodium and palladium as active components causes the need to be able to measure the precious metal loading with small uncertainty and to have suitable certified reference materials fulfilling high demands on the quality of the certified values. In European Reference Material ERM^®-EB504, a used cordierite-based car catalyst material, mass fractions of platinum, palladium and rhodium were certified. The raw material was milled, homogenised and annealed before analysis. Seventeen laboratories experienced in precious metals analysis participated in the certification interlaboratory comparison, most of them analysing with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry using different sample pretreatment techniques. Homogeneity testing was carried out using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The certified mass fractions of Pt, Pd and Rh and their expanded uncertainties (k = 2) in ERM^®-EB504 are (1777 ± 15), (279 ± 6) and (338 ± 4) mg/kg respectively.     

Generalization of the Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov Equations

In this Letter, we introduce a generalization of the Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equations from affine Lie algebras to a wide class of conformal field theories (not necessarily rational). The new equations describe correlations functions of primary fields and of a finite number of their descendents. Our proposal is based on Nahm's concept of small spaces which provide adequate substitutes for the lowest energy subspaces in modules of affine Lie algebras. We explain how to construct the first order differential equations and investigate properties of the associated connections, thereby preparing the grounds for an analysis of quantum symmetries. The general considerations are illustrated in examples of Virasoro minimal models.

Magnetic hyperfine field for arsenic in nickel

The magnetic hyperfine field for As in nickel has been remeasured by DPAD techniques. Using a sandwich type of target the excited As nuclei were recoil-implanted into unpolarized nickel layers after the reaction⁷¹Ga (α, n)⁷⁴As. The resultH _hf (300 K)=106 (2) kOe differs considerably from a former IPAC measurement.
