Extrapolated two-step backward difference (BDF2) in time and finite element in space discretization for the unsteady penetrative convection model is analyzed. Penetrative convection model employs a nonlinear equation of state making the problem more nonlinear. Optimal order error estimates are derived for the semi-discrete finite element spatial discretization. Two time discretization schemes based on linear extrapolation are proposed and analyzed, namely a coupled and a decoupled scheme. In particular, we show that although both schemes are unconditionally nonlinearly stable, the decoupled scheme converges unconditionally whereas coupled scheme requires that the time step be sufficiently small for convergence. These time discretization schemes can be implemented efficiently in practice, saving computational memory. Numerical computations and numerical convergence checks are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the schemes.  相似文献

In this article, a reduced‐order modeling approach, suitable for active control of fluid dynamical systems, based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is presented. The rationale behind the reduced‐order modeling is that numerical simulation of Navier–Stokes equations is still too costly for the purpose of optimization and control of unsteady flows. The possibility of obtaining reduced‐order models that reduce the computational complexity associated with the Navier–Stokes equations is examined while capturing the essential dynamics by using the POD. The POD allows the extraction of a reduced set of basis functions, perhaps just a few, from a computational or experimental database through an eigenvalue analysis. The solution is then obtained as a linear combination of this reduced set of basis functions by means of Galerkin projection. This makes it attractive for optimal control and estimation of systems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). It is used here in active control of fluid flows governed by the Navier–Stokes equations. In particular, flow over a backward‐facing step is considered. Reduced‐order models/low‐dimensional dynamical models for this system are obtained using POD basis functions (global) from the finite element discretizations of the Navier–Stokes equations. Their effectiveness in flow control applications is shown on a recirculation control problem using blowing on the channel boundary. An interactive method is developed for solving the general nonlinear multiple objective mathematical programming problems. The method asks the decision maker to provide partial information (local tradeoff ratios) about his utility (preference) function at each iteration. Using the information, the method generates an efficient solution and presents it to the decision maker. In so doing, the best compromise solution is sought in a finite number of iterations. This method differs from the existing feasible direction methods in that (i) it allows the decision maker to consider only efficient solutions throughout, (ii) the requirement of line search is optional, and (iii) it solves the problems with linear objective functions and linear utility function in one iteration. Using various problems selected from the literature, five line search variations of the method are tested and compared to one another. The nonexisting decision maker is simulated using three different recognition levels, and their impact on the method is also investigated.  相似文献

We report the first Raman spectroscopic investigations of medieval Indian art of 17th century. Three miniature paintings, belonging to Mogul and Rajput schools from the collections of the Madras Museum, were investigated by micro‐Raman spectroscopy using different excitation wavelengths. Many areas in the paintings exhibited rich spectra containing several intense Raman bands. The Raman bands were assigned on the basis of the reported reference spectra of the pigments. Evidences for the presence of massicot, red‐lead, lead‐white, vermilion, litharge, Indian yellow and anatase are found. In addition, tentative assignments of some of the Raman bands to atacamite and orpiment are also made. The present studies suggest that several mineral‐based unique pigments were popular among the Indian artists of this period. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of a non-Hermitian Bosonic bath on the dynamics of a two-level spin system. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the bath is chosen such that it converges to the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian when the non-Hermiticity is switched off. We calculate the dynamics of the spin system and found that the non-Hermiticity can have positive as well as negative effects on the coherence of the system. However, the decoherence can be completely eliminated by choosing the non-Hermiticity parameter and the phase of the system bath interaction appropriately. We have also studied the effect of this bath on the entanglement of a two-spin system when the bath is acting only on one spin.  相似文献

Summary In the present paper, we have undertaken a comparative study of the flow behaviour of two types of fluids —Eringen's mioropolar fluid andStokes' couple stress fluid — in a simple oscillatory flow. This study was undertaken with a view to see if the close resemblance of the flow behaviour of these two fluids in steady shearing flows was maintained even in time dependent flows. We find that the flow behaviour of these two fluids are widely different in oscillatory motion.  相似文献
