Inclusion controlled lanthanide-imidazolium functionalised carboxylate complexation

Imidazolium functionalized carboxylic acid forms a multi-component material with p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene and aquated lanthanide ions, stabilising dinuclear metal complexes for Y(3+) and Gd(3+). These have the simplest binding of two bridging carboxylates between the two metal centres (Y(3+)), or the same arrangement along with the simplest binding of one carboxylate bridging two metal ions for the larger metal ion (Gd(3+)).     

Encapsulation and Sustained Release of Curcumin using Superparamagnetic Silica Reservoirs

For controlled release and targeted delivery of curcumin in an aqueous medium a method of encapsulating curcumin and magnetic nanoparticles inside porous silica matrix has been developed. Curcumin and superparamagnetic nanoparticles are loaded inside porous silica in a single process. The graphic shows the TEM image of microtomed sample of Fe₃O₄ particles surrounded by a silica matrix.

     

The growth of a single crystal of Sr3CuIrO6 and its magnetic behavior compared to polycrystals

We have grown single crystals of the psuedo-one-dimensional compound Sr₃CuIrO₆, a K₄CdCl₆-derived monoclinic structure with Cu-Ir chains along the [101] direction. We present the ac and dc magnetization behavior of the single crystals in comparison with that of the polycrystalline form reported earlier. There is a distinct evidence for at least two magnetic transitions, at 5 K (T ₁) and 19 K (T ₂), with different relative magnitudes in the single and polycrystals. The low temperature magnetic relaxation behavior of both the forms is found to be widely different, exhibiting unexpected time dependence.     

Selective 1,3-complexation of p-(t)Bu-calix[4]arene by [TiCp(2)Me(2)

Reaction of p-(t)Bu-calix[4]arene with dimethyl titanocene results in high yield selective 1,3-dimetallation of the calixarene in the cone conformation by selective cleavage of one methyl group.     

'Molecular capsules' based on p-sulfonatocalix[6]arene shrouding two tetraphenylphosphonium cations

p-Sulfonatocalix[6]arene in the double cone conformation forms a molecular capsule-like arrangement confining two tetraphenylphosphonium cations, as part of an extended structure involving layers of additional tetraphenylphosphonium cations, aquated lanthanide ions and a large array of water molecules.     

Solvent-free, direct synthesis of supramolecular nano-capsules

The single step direct synthesis of pyrogallol[4]arene via a solvent free protocol yields the pure product as a self-assembled nano-capsule, comprised of six macrocyclic building blocks.
