Efficient and wavelength-tunable anti-Stokes frequency conversion with good beam quality in the fundamental mode of photonic crystal fiber

Using the photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with the zero dispersion wavelength of 848 nm for the fundamental mode, the efficient anti-Stokes signal generations from 645 to 543 nm are realized by pumping in the normal dispersion region. When the pump average power increases from 200 to 500 mW, the output power of the anti-Stokes signal increases 8.46 times, the power ratio of the anti-Stokes signal at 543 nm to the residual pump is calculated as 22.6:1, and the conversion efficiency η in the experiment can be up to 46%. Moreover, good optical beam quality of the anti-Stokes signal can be achieved.     

Study of isotope shifts,isotone shifts and nuclear compressibility from the analysis of muonic x-ray transitions

Muonic x-ray transitions in various spherical nuclei in the region 13?Z?83 have been analysed and the isotope and isotone shifts in charge radiusR are investigated. AssumingR=r ₀ A ^1/3, the isotopic and isotonic behaviour of the parameterr ₀ (=RA ^?1/3) is also studied. The variation ofr ₀ with mass numberA reveals the variation of average nucleon density, which in turn sheds light on the compressibility of nuclear matter. The isotope and isotone shifts inR exhibit the shell effects in the vicinity of magic neutron and proton numbers: 20, 28, 50, 82 and 126. The results indicate that neutron-proton interaction is maximum at the beginning of a major neutron shell and decreases gradually as the shell gets filled up. The behaviour of parameterr ₀ clearly suggests that low-Z nuclei are highly compressible while high-Z nuclei are more or less incompressible. The parameterr ₀ too is observed to exhibit profound shell effects.     

Optical absorption spectrum of Co2+ in ammonium perchlorate single crystal

Single crystals of cobalt — doped ammonium perchlorate were grown at room temperature. The electronic absorption bands observed at room and liquid air temperatures have been assigned transitions from the ground⁴T₁(F) state to the excited⁴T₂(F),⁴A₂(F),²T₁(G) and⁴T₁(P) states. Forced vibration of a damped sandwich beam subjected to moving forces

The response of a sandwich beam subjected to moving forces (constant as well as pulsating) is analyzed by the use of Fourier and Laplace transforms and compared with the response of an equivalent elastic beam. The results indicate that the critical speed of force on a sandwich beam is always greater than that on an elastic beam of identical mass per unit length and flexural rigidity, and depends on its geometric and shear parameters. For subcritical speeds, the maximum deflection of a sandwich beam is shown to occur earlier than that of an equivalent elastic beam. An increase in the core shear stiffness is shown to be beneficial in reducing the dynamic magnification of the central deflection of the sandwich beam.     

A characterization of Gaussian measures on locally compact Abelian groups

Let and be independent random variables having equal variance. In order that + and – be independent, it is necessary and sufficient that and have normal distributions. This result of Bernshtein [1] is carried over in [7] to the case when and take values in a locally compact Abelian group.
