Microdetermination of carbonyl compounds by reduction with alkaline sodium borohydride

Summary Alkaline sodium borohydride has been employed as a reducing reagent for the titrimetric determination of compounds containing the carbonyl function. The sample is dissolved in methanol and is then reduced with alkaline sodium borohydride. After completion of the reaction, the excess sodium borohydride is back titrated against standardized hydrochloric acid solution using methyl red as indicator. The stoichiometry between the carbonyl function and sodium borohydride is 41.

Zusammenfassung Natriumborhydrid dient als Reduktionsmittel zur Titration von Carbonylverbindungen. Die Probe wird in Methanol gelöst und dann mit alkalischem Natriumborhydrid reduziert. Nach Ablauf der Reaktion wird der Überschuß mit Salzsäure gegen Methylrot zurücktitriert. Carbonylverbindung und Natriumborhydrid reagieren im Verhältnis 41.

     

Chloride estimation by a solid membrane electrode

Summary A solid membrane electrode based on Cr-Zr mixed hydrous oxide gel doped with Sn(II) ion has been proposed for the estimation of chloride ions. The electrode can be used in the concentration range 0.1 to 5×10^–5 M. The selectivity of the electrode system is much better as compared to other electrodes reported for the same ion.

Zusammenfassung Eine feste Membran-Elektrode auf der Basis einer mit Sn(II)-Ionen gedopten Mischung aus Chrom- und Zirkon-Oxidhydratgel wurde für die Bestimmung von Chloridionen vorgeschlagen. Diese Elektrode läßt sich im Konzentrationsgebiet 0,1 bis 5×10^–5 M verwenden. Die Selektivität ist erheblich besser als diejenige anderer Elektroden.

     

Some remarks on the use of rational functions as variational functions

Binuclear ruthenium(II) pyridazine complex catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of ketones

A convenient and general method of synthesis of binuclear ruthenium(II) pyridazine complex was reported. The synthesized complex was characterized by analytical and spectral methods. The structure of the complex was confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique and was found to be an efficient catalyst for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones with excellent conversions in the presence of isopropanol/KOH at 82 °C. The effect of solvents, bases, and different catalyst/substrate ratio for the reaction was also investigated.     

Substituted Diorganotin(IV) O,O’-Alkylene Dithiophosphates: Synthesis and Spectral Aspects

Six new substituted diphenyltin(IV) O,O′-alkylene dithiophosphates, (C₆H₅)₂Sn(X)S(S) POGO [G = —CH₂C(CH₃)₂CH₂—, X = Cl (1), SCN (3), ClO₄ (5); G = —CH₂C (C₄H₉)(C₂H₅)CH₂—, X = Cl (2), SCN (4), ClO₄ (6)], were synthesized by the reaction of the corresponding ammonium salts of the O,O’-alkylene dithiophosphates with an appropriate organotin(IV) chloride. The compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental and spectral analyses (ESI mass spectrometry, IR, ¹H, ¹³C, ³¹P, and ¹¹⁹Sn NMR). The presence of a four-coordinated Sn atom and monodentate O,O’-alkylene dithiophosphate moiety in compounds 1–4 as well as bidentate O,O’-alkylene dithiophosphate unit in compounds 5,6 is established.     

Stereoselective Synthesis of (Z)‐ and (E)‐Allyl Aryl Sulfides and Selenides from Baylis?Hillman Acetates under Neutral Conditions Using β‐Cyclodextrin in Water

The first example of the stereoselective synthesis of (Z)‐ and (E)‐allyl aryl sulfides and selenides from Baylis? Hillman acetates under neutral conditions in H₂O by supramolecular catalysis involving β‐cyclodextrin is reported. β‐Cyclodextrin can be recovered and reused. The reaction is very efficient in providing allyl aryl sulfides and selenides in good‐to‐excellent yields with clean reaction profiles under mild reaction conditions.     

Mild and Highly Efficient Protocol for the Synthesis of Benzimidazoles Using Samarium Triflate [Sm(OTf)3]

One-pot synthesis of benzimidazole compounds from ortho-phenylenediamine and a variety of aldehydes was developed under mild reaction conditions. All the reactions were carried out in the presence of samarium triflate (10 mol%) in acetonitrile at room temperature.
