A rapid electrochemical method based on using a clean hydrogen‐bubble template to form a bimetallic porous honeycomb Cu/Pd structure has been investigated. The addition of palladium salt to a copper‐plating bath under conditions of vigorous hydrogen evolution was found to influence the pore size and bulk concentration of copper and palladium in the honeycomb bimetallic structure. The surface was characterised by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which revealed that the surface of honeycomb Cu/Pd was found to be rich with a Cu/Pd alloy. The inclusion of palladium in the bimetallic structure not only influenced the pore size, but also modified the dendritic nature of the internal wall structure of the parent copper material into small nanometre‐sized crystallites. The chemical composition of the bimetallic structure and substantial morphology changes were found to significantly influence the surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopic response for immobilised rhodamine B and the hydrogen‐evolution reaction. The ability to create free‐standing films of this honeycomb material may also have many advantages in the areas of gas‐ and liquid‐phase heterogeneous catalysis.  相似文献

As new biodegradable polymers and their packaging applications are emerging, there is a need to address their environmental performance. In particular, there is a need to understand the time required for their complete disintegration, before these materials are deployed in commercial composting processes. Standards developed by ASTM and ISO evaluate the biodegradation of biodegradable plastic materials in simulated controlled composting conditions. However, a more detailed understanding of the biodegradation of complete packages is needed in order to have a successful composting operation. This paper investigates the biodegradation performance of polylactide (PLA) bottles under simulated composting conditions according to ASTM and ISO standards, and these results are compared with a novel method of evaluating package biodegradation in real composting conditions. Two simulated composting methods were used in this study to assess biodegradability of PLA bottles: (a) a cumulative measurement respirometric (CMR) system and (b) a gravimetric measurement respirometric (GMR) system. Both CMR and GMR systems showed similar trends of biodegradation for PLA bottles and at the end of the 58th day the mineralization was 84.2±0.9% and 77.8±10.4%, respectively. PLA bottle biodegradation in real composting conditions was correlated to their breakdown and variation in molecular weight. Molecular weight of 4100 Da was obtained for PLA bottles in real composting conditions on the 30th day. The biodegradation observed for PLA bottles in both conditions explored in this study matches well with theoretical degradation and biodegradation mechanisms; however, biodegradation variability exists in both conditions and is discussed in this paper.  相似文献

The head related impulse response (HRIR) characterizes the auditory cues created by scattering of sound off a person's anatomy. The experimentally measured HRIR depends on several factors such as reflections from body parts (torso, shoulder, and knees), head diffraction, and reflection/ diffraction effects due to the pinna. Structural models (Algazi et al., 2002; Brown and Duda, 1998) seek to establish direct relationships between the features in the HRIR and the anatomy. While there is evidence that particular features in the HRIR can be explained by anthropometry, the creation of such models from experimental data is hampered by the fact that the extraction of the features in the HRIR is not automatic. One of the prominent features observed in the HRIR, and one that has been shown to be important for elevation perception, are the deep spectral notches attributed to the pinna. In this paper we propose a method to robustly extract the frequencies of the pinna spectral notches from the measured HRIR, distinguishing them from other confounding features. The method also extracts the resonances described by Shaw (1997). The techniques are applied to the publicly available CIPIC HRIR database (Algazi et al., 2001c). The extracted notch frequencies are related to the physical dimensions and shape of the pinna.  相似文献

We propose a new test statistic based on a score process for determining the statistical significance of a putative signal that may be a small perturbation to a noisy experimental background. We derive the reference distribution for this score test statistic; it has an elegant geometrical interpretation as well as broad applicability. We illustrate the technique in the context of a model problem from high-energy particle physics. Monte Carlo experimental results confirm that the score test results in a significantly improved rate of signal detection.  相似文献

Ring‐opening polymerization of 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one in bulk was initiated by three titanium alkoxides, titanium dichlorodiisopropoxide (TiCl2(OiPr)2), titanium chlorotriisopropoxide (TiCl(OiPr)3), and titanium tetraisopropoxide (Ti(OiPr)4). The results indicate that the polymerization rate increased with number of OiPr groups in the initiator. High conversion of monomer (90%) and high molecular weight (11.9 × 104 g/mol) of resulting polymer can be achieved in only 5 min at 60 °C with Ti(OiPr)4 as an initiator. Analysis on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra suggests the initiating sites for TiCl2(OiPr)2, TiCl(OiPr)3, and Ti(OiPr)4 to be 1.9, 2.6, and 3.8, respectively. Coordination‐insertion mechanism for the polymerization via cleavage of the acyl–oxygen bonds of the monomer was proved by NMR investigation. Kinetic studies indicate that polymerization initiated by Ti(OiPr)4 followed a first‐order kinetics, with an apparent activation energy of 33.7 kJ/mol. It is noteworthy that this value is significantly lower than earlier reported values with other catalysts, namely La(OiPr)3 (50.5 kJ/mol) and Sn(Oct)2 (71.8 kJ/mol), which makes it an attractive catalyst for reactive extrusion polymerization. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of Bi substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi-YIG) nanoparticles with nominal formula of Bi x Y3???x Fe5O12 in which x varied in steps of 0.0, 0.25 and 0.5 are prepared by conventional method. Vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) at Room temperature (RT) shows saturation magnetization decreases from 27.4 to 25.2 (emu/g) as x value increases from 0.0 to 0.5. Room temperature 57Fe Mössbauer spectra are recorded for these series. The hyperfine field value for octahedral and tetrahedral of samples increases from 484 and 390 kOe to 491 and 397 kOe respectability, as Bi replaces Y in (Bi x Y3???x Fe5O12) atom with increasing x value. The effect of Bi3?+? substitution for Y3?+? on lattice constants, morphology and magnetic properties of pure YIG has been investigated.  相似文献
