Balancing the performance, durability and safety requirements of automotive systems with the regulatory landscape in an environment of climate change has accelerated the search for sustainable fiber reinforced polymer composites for automobile structures. Glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer composites (GFRP) are widely used in certain structures like front end modules and liftgate; However, they cannot be used in more demanding applications due to their low mechanical properties. Carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer composites (CFRP) are promising candidates for applications like bonnet, but their use is constrained by cost. Basalt fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer composites (BFRP) are sustainable materials that can be positioned between GFRP and CFRP in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness. The mechanical performance of the BFRP depend on the quality of the fiber-matrix interface that aids in efficient load transfer from the matrix to the fiber. Typically, basalt fibers are inert in nature and need treatments to improve its adhesion to polymeric matrices. The major chemical treatments that are reviewed in this article include matrix functionalization, silane treatment, functionalized nanomaterial coating and plasma polymerization. The physical treatments reviewed include plasma treatment and milling. It is evident that chemically treating the basalt fiber with a functionalized nanomaterial yields BFRP with a good stiffness – toughness balance that can be used for challenging metal replacements as also in new emerging areas like sensing and 3D printing.  相似文献

The N-NO2 bond dissociation energies (BDEs) for 7 energetic materials were computed by means of accurate density functional theory (B3LYP, B3PW91 and B3P86) with 6-31G** and 6-311G** basis sets. By comparing the computed energies and experimental results, we find that the B3P86/6-311G** method can give good results of BDE, which has the mean absolute deviation of 1.30kcal/mol. In addition, substituent effects were also taken into account. It is noted that the Hammett constants of substituent groups are related to the BDEs of the N-NO2 bond and the bond dissociation energies of the energetic materials studied decrease when increasing the number of NO2 group.  相似文献

Summary: The synthesis of a novel series of multi‐nuclear macroligated pyridylimine based palladium(II) complexes conjugated to a synthetic star polymer core has been well‐described. Star shaped polystyrene with a finite number of arms were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the chain ends were chemically modified in order to introduce the desired end functionality. Utilizing this polymer as organic supports for pyridylimine‐based ligands, palladium(II) complexes were synthesized. On activating with methylaluminoxane (MAO), this complex showed substantially high activity towards ethylene oligomerization, producing C4 and C6 compositions as major products. The plausible mechanistic insight concerning the process of ethylene oligomerization is also broached.

Incorporating tungsten into the N3 core of a N‐fused porphyrin (NFP; 1 ) affords high‐valent tungsten(VI)‐NFP complexes, WClO2‐1 and 21‐chlorinated WClO2‐3 . The X‐ray structure of WClO2‐1 reveals a distorted octahedral geometry with sitting atop metal coordination. The absorption spectrum of WClO2‐1 displays bathochromically shifted Q‐like bands beyond 1000 nm, indicating an inherently narrow HOMO‐LUMO energy gap. DFT calculations show that the degeneracy of the LUMO and LUMO+1 pair of 1 is significantly resolved by the tungsten(VI) coordination. Conclusively, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry provide a rationale for the narrow HOMO‐LUMO energy gap in the “16‐electron” d0 tungsten(VI)‐NFP complexes.  相似文献

Understanding the structure‐morphology relationships of self‐assembled nanostructures is crucial for developing materials with the desired chemical and biological functions. Here, phosphate‐based naphthalimide (NI) derivatives have been developed for the first time to study the enzyme‐instructed self‐assembly process. Self‐assembly of simple amino acid derivative NI‐Yp resulted in non‐specific amorphous aggregates in the presence of alkaline phosphatase enzyme. On the other hand, NI‐FYp dipeptide forms spherical nanoparticles under aqueous conditions which slowly transformed into partially unzipped nanotubular structures during the enzymatic catalytic process through multiple stages which subsequently resulted in hydrogelation. The self‐assembly is driven by the formation of β‐sheet type structures stabilized by offset aromatic stacking of NI core and hydrogen bonding interactions which is confirmed with PXRD, Congo‐red staining and molecular mechanical calculations. We propose a mechanism for the self‐assembly process based on TEM and spectroscopic data. The nanotubular structures of NI‐FYp precursor exhibited higher cytotoxicity to human breast cancer cells and human cervical cancer cells when compared to the nanofiber structures of the similar Fmoc‐derivative. Overall this study provides a new understanding of the supramolecular self‐assembly of small‐molecular‐weight hydrogelators.  相似文献

Two new crystalline rotors 1 and 2 assembled through N−H⋅⋅⋅N hydrogen bonds by using halogenated carbazole as stators and 1,4-diaza[2.2.2]bicyclooctane (DABCO) as the rotator, are described. The dynamic characterization through 1H T1 relaxometry experiments indicate very low rotational activation barriers (Ea) of 0.67 kcal mol−1 for 1 and 0.26 kcal mol−1 for 2 , indicating that DABCO can reach a THz frequency at room temperature in the latter. These Ea values are supported by solid-state density functional theory computations. Interestingly, both supramolecular rotors show a phase transition between 298 and 250 K, revealed by differential scanning calorimetry and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The subtle changes in the crystalline environment of these rotors that can alter the motion of an almost barrierless DABCO are discussed here.  相似文献

With the upsurging cases of type II diabetic patients, the demand for safe and effective oral antidiabetic drugs is also increasing. Coordination complexes have proven their mettle as efficient oral drug candidates, which thereby motivated us in this work to design new transition metal complexes as plausible candidates for the treatment of diabetes. A reduced salen ligand, {H2(hpdbal)2-an} ( 1 ) derived vanadium (IV) and iron (III) complexes, namely, [VIVO{(hpdbal)2-an}] ( 2 ) and [{FeIII (OH2)((hpdbal)2-an)}2 μ2-SO4] ( 3 ) were synthesized in this study. The newly obtained ligand and complexes were characterized using usual analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The potential of these compounds in inducing increased glucose uptake by diabetic cells were studied by using insulin resistant HepG2 cells as model diabetic cells and 2-NBDG molecule as a D-glucose analogue and fluorescent tracker. The cells added with the vanadium (IV) complex 3 induced significant NBDG uptake of 95.4% which was higher than that induced by metformin, the standard antidiabetic drug. To elucidate the behavior of the complexes in biological media, model solution studies were conducted with a wide range of pH conditions and protein bovine serum albumin (BSA). The complexes demonstrated effective binding with BSA which was concluded through spectroscopic titration studies and were also found to be sufficiently stable over physiological pH conditions. The study can thus prove to be beneficial in the quest for new antidiabetic drugs.  相似文献

Nafion and montmorillonite clay adsorbed methylene blue coated onto platinum electrode were prepared. These dye modified electrodes were used as photoelectrodes in a photogalvanic cell in the presence of Fe2+ ions. The photoelectrochemical investigations showed that the dye coated electrodes behaved as cathode upon irradiation whereas the plain platinum electrode dipped in a homogeneous solution containing methylene blue and Fe2+ ions behaved as anode. It is suggested that the intermediate complex formed between the photoreduced methylene blue and ferric ion lead to the reductive reaction at the coated electrode.  相似文献

Based on our critique of requirements for performing an efficient molecular dynamics simulation with the particle-mesh Ewald (PME) implementation in GROMACS 4.5, we present a computational tool to enable the discovery of parameters that produce a given accuracy in the PME approximation of the full electrostatics. Calculations on two parallel computers with different processor and communication structures showed that a given accuracy can be attained over a range of parameter space, and that the attributes of the hardware and simulation system control which parameter sets are optimal. This information can be used to find the fastest available PME parameter sets that achieve a given accuracy. We hope that this tool will stimulate future work to assess the impact of the quality of the PME approximation on simulation outcomes, particularly with regard to the trade-off between cost and scientific reliability in biomolecular applications.  相似文献
