Intensity distribution in the vibronic Γ7(2 T 2g )→Γ8(4 A 2g ) transition of ReBr 6 2− in Hexahalogenostannate host crystals

The phosphorescence spectra of ReBr ₆ ^2– doped A₂SnX₆ (A = K, Rb, Cs; X = Cl, Br) have been measured at 10 K. The spectra consist of a weighted sum of progressions associated with the local modes of the ReBr ₆ ^2– center. By a fit to a generalized Lorentzian line shape function the totally symmetric distortion of the ₇(² T _2g ) excited state relative to the ₈(⁴ A _2g ) ground state has been determined.Dedicated to Professor Dr. H.-H. Alignment of anisotropic superfluids by flow

We discuss some features of one dimensional superflow in a p-state superfluid. The direction l of the orbital momentum is anchored at the walls, but l tends to become aligned along the flow lines, when the superfluid velocity exceeds a certain threshold.

A contribution to the theory of Maxwell's equation in the time-independent case with the boundary condition n·B=n·D=0 (n outer normal) for the interior and exterior problem of a bounded domain GR³ is given by means of Hilbert space methods. The problem is reduced to one with the boundary condition (in classical notation) n·curl E=n·curl H=0, which permits partial integration of the curl-operator. Carrying the existence and uniqueness theorems which are available in this case back to the original boundary value problem we get corresponding results.     

Factorizing coupled quantum systems and damped nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We show that the wave function of a coupled quantum system may factorize for certain coupling operators, resulting in wave functions and effective nonlinear Hamiltonians for the subsystems. Systems of coupled harmonic oscillators with discrete or continuous spectra are considered, where all degrees of freedom move in time-dependent coherent Glauber states.We present the general formalism and study two examples in detail. The problem of radiation damping results under drastic assumptions in exponentially damped harmonic motion, obeying a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In the second example, a different type of coupling is studied which yields inverse power law damping.
