Synthesis of 3-N,N-Dialkylamino-5-(3,5,6-trichloro-1,4-benzoquinon-2-yl)thiazoline-2-thiones

N,N-Dialkylhydrazides of S-(4,6,7-trichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]-3-furanyl)dithiocarbonic acids have been obtained by the reaction of 3,4,6,7-tetrachloro-2,5-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan with N,N-dialkylhydrazinium salts of N,N-dialkylhydrazides of dithiocarbonic acids. Recyclization in boiling ethanol in the presence of conc. HCl with subsequent oxidation leads to the formation of 3-N,N-dialkylamino-5-(3,5,6-trichloro-1,4-benzoquinon-2-yl)thiazoline-2-thiones. An attempt at recyclization in boiling trifluoroacetic acid led to the formation of 3-N,N-dialkylamino-5,6,8-trichloro-7-hydroxy-2,3,3a,8b-tetrahydrothiazolo[4,5-b]benzo[d]furane-2-thiones.     

Synthesis of 2-(β-Hetarylaminoethyl)-3,5,6-trichloro-1,4-benzoquinones

4,6,7-Trichloro-2-hetarylamino-5-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furans have been prepared from 4,6,7-trichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan and hetarylamines. Reductive opening of the dihydrobenzofuran ring in these compounds gave 3,5,6-trichloro-2-(-hetarylaminoethyl)hydroquinones. The latter could be oxidised to the target 3,5,6-trichloro-2-(-hetarylaminoethyl)-1,4-benzoquinones which are novel 1,4-benzoquinone derivatives with intramolecular charge transfer.     

Two polymorphs of afobazole from powder diffraction data

Afobazole {systematic name: 2‐[2‐(morpholin‐4‐yl)ethylsulfanyl]‐1H‐benzimidazole} is a new anxiolytic drug and Actins, Auzins & Petkune [(2012). Eur. Patent EP10163962] described four polymorphic modifications. In the present study, the crystal structures of two monoclinic polymorphs, 5‐ethoxy‐2‐[2‐(morpholin‐4‐ium‐4‐yl)ethylsulfanyl]‐1H‐benzimidazol‐3‐ium dichloride, C₁₅H₂₃N₃O₂S²⁺·2Cl⁻, (II) and (IV), have been established from laboratory powder diffraction data. The crystal packing and conformation of the dications in (II) and (IV) are different. In (II), there are channels in the [001] direction, which offer atmospheric water molecules an easy way of penetrating into the crystal structure, thus explaining the higher hygroscopicity of (II) compared with (IV).     

Synthesis of aminovinyl derivatives of quinoline- and isoquinoline-5,8-diones*

Aminovinyl derivatives of quinoline-5,8-dione and isoquinoline-5,8-dione were obtained. The structure of (E)-6-chloro-7-[2-(N,N-diethylamino)vinyl]quinoline-5,8-dione was confirmed by X-ray structural analysis.     

Oxidative Recyclization of 4,6,7-Trichloro-5-hydroxy-2-(2-pyrimidylamino)-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan

When 4,6,7-trichloro-5-hydroxy-2-(2-pyrimidylamino)- 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan reacted with phenyliodoso diacetate, an unexpected oxidative recyclization was observed to give 3-(3,5,6-trichloro-1,4-benzoquinon-2-yl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine. 2-[N-2-(3,5,6-Trichloro-1,4-benzoquinon-2-yl)ethenylamino]pyrimidine is the intermediate product in the conversion.     

ESR spectra of electrochemically generated free anion radicals of hetaryl-substituted trichloro-1,4-benzoquinones

The ESR method was used to confirm the formation of free anion radicals in the source of electrochemical reduction of 5-thiazolul-substituted 1,4-benzoquinones and related compounds, as well as the ability of the unpaired electron to become delocalized over the system of electrons not only of the benzoquinone nucleus but also of the hetaryl substituent added to it.Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Riga, LV-1006.
