Peak recognition technique by a computer program copying the human judgement

Summary It is still difficult to determine peaks and peak boundaries properly, though peak recognition is very important for the precision of quantitative data. A new computer program overcomes these problems using a method which is adapted from human judgements. The algorithm was developed for HPLC but can also be used in other fields of analytical chemistry.

Ascorbic acid as a potential masking agent in the tanning process. Olated chromium complexes involving ligating ascorbate and bridging sulfate groups

Two polynuclear complexes, a dimer and a tetramer, involving sulfate and hydroxo bridges and ligating ascorbate were isolated from aqueous solutions. Structural formulae are proposed on the basis of microanalytical and thermal analysis results, i.r., ¹³C-n.m.r., mass spectral data and magnetic measurements.     

An extremal problem related to probability

Summary We consider a walk from a stateA ₁ to a stateA _n+1 in which the probability of remaining atA _i isp _i , and the probability of progressing fromA _i toA _i+1 is 1 –p _i . The probabilityW _nk of reachingA _n+1 fromA ₁ in exactlyn + k steps can then be expressed as a polynomial of degreen + k in then variablesp ₁,,p _n . A fluctuation theorem for moderately interacting diffusion processes

Summary We study the asymptotic behaviour of the fluctuations of the empirical processes of the second example of moderately interacting diffusion processes of [3] and show that in the limit, as the number of different processes tends to infinity, these fluctuations behave gaussian.This work has been supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft     

Stationary policies and Markov policies in Borel dynamic programming

Summary The question of the existence of good Markov [good stationary] policies is studied for a general class of Borel [stationary] dynamic programming models. Elementary operators with H∞-symbols

Let T be a c.n.u. contraction on a Hilbert spaceH and let u-(u₁,...,u_n) be an n-tuple of H(T). We calculate various joint spectra of u(T) and apply the results to study the spectral and index theories of elementary operators associated with n-tuples of the above type.Both authors have been partially supported by NSF grants.
