Discrete Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions 176Yb-->176Lu at low excitation energies have been measured via the ( 3He,t) reaction at 450 MeV and at 0 degrees. For 176Yb, two low-lying states are observed, setting low thresholds Q(nu) = 301 and 445 keV for neutrino ( nu) capture. Capture rates estimated from the measured GT strengths, the simple two-state excitation structure, and the low Q(nu) in Yb-Lu indicate that Yb-based nu detectors are well suited for a direct measurement of the sub-MeV solar electron-neutrino ( nu(e)) spectrum including pp neutrinos.  相似文献

Characterization of polymer coatings microstructure is critical to the fundamental understanding of the corrosion of coated metals. An approach for mapping the chemical heterogeneity of a polymer system using chemical modification and tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy (TMAFM) is demonstrated. This approach is based on the selective degradation of one of the phases in a multiphase polymer blend system and the ability of TMAFM to provide nanoscale lateral information about the different phases in the polymer system. Films made of a 70:30 polyethyl acrylate/polystyrene (PEA/PS) blend were exposed to a hydrolytic acidic environment and analyzed using TMAFM. Pits were observed to form in the PEA/PS blend films, and this degradation behavior was similar to that of the PEA material. Using these results, the domains in the 70:30 blend were identified as the PS‐rich regions and the matrix as the PEA‐rich region. This conclusion was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared‐attenuated total reflection analyses that revealed the hydrolysis of the PEA material. TMAFM phase imaging was also used to follow pit growth of the blend as a function of exposure time. The usefulness of the chemical modification/AFM imaging approach in understanding the degradation process of a coating film is discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Results are presented on inclusive production of ∑+(1385) and ∑?(1385) inK ? p interactions at 110 GeV/c. The inclusive and topological cross sections have been estimated and compared with published results at lower energies. The inclusive cross section of ∑+(1385) seems to decrease with c.m. energy, while that of the ∑?(1385) is nearly constant. The mean charged multiplicity associate to Σ(1385) increases with c.m. energy. The ∑+(1385) is produced both in the target fragmentation region and in the central region where ∑?(1385) is predominantly produced in the central region. Approximately 16% of the Λ's stem from the decay of ∑±(1385) and the kinematic distributions of these Λ's are not very different from the inclusive Λ's.  相似文献

The new hydrazinium lanthanide metal complexes of 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid (HpyzCOO) of the formulae (N2H5)2[Ln(pyzCOO)5] · 2H2O (1), where Ln = La or Ce and (N2H5)3[Ln(pyzCOO)4(H2O)] · 2NO3 (2), where Ln = Pr, Nd, Sm or Dy have been synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical methods. The IR absorption bands of N–N stretching at 960 cm−1 unambiguously prove the existence of N2H5 + ions. The bonding parameters β, b1/2, % δ and η, have been calculated from the electronic spectroscopic (hypersensitive) bands of Pr(III) and Nd(III) complexes. All the complexes undergo endothermic followed by exothermic decomposition to leave the respective metal oxides as the end products. However, the DTA of the complexes 2 demonstrate rather sharp peak than the complexes 1, owing to overwhelming exothermicity, which may be due to the loss of both hydrazine and nitrate moieties in the same step. The X-ray powder diffraction studies reveal the existence of isomorphism among the member complexes.  相似文献

Several solvent-free processing methods to disperse multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in bisphenol F-based epoxy resin were investigated, including the use of a microfluidizer (MF), planetary shear mixer (PSM), ultrasonication (US) and combinations. The processed mixture was cured with diethyl toluene diamine. Three complimentary techniques were used to characterize the dispersion of the MWCNTs in cured composite samples: optical microscopy, micro Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For sample MF + PSM, optical micrographs and Raman images showed reduced agglomeration and a homogeneous distribution of MWCNTs in the epoxy matrix. SEM analysis of fractured specimen after tensile testing revealed breakage of nanotubes along the fracture surface of the composite. A comparison of the MWCNT dispersion in the epoxy samples processed using different methods showed that a combination of MF and PSM processing yields a more homogeneous sample than the PSM or US + PSM processed samples. Mechanical testing of the composites showed about 15% improvement in the tensile strength of samples processed by the MF + PSM method over other methods. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed a small decrease in the onset degradation temperature for poorly dispersed samples produced by PSM compared with the well-mixed samples (MF + PSM). These results strongly suggest that the MF + PSM processing method yield better-dispersed and stronger MWCNT/epoxy composites. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Some recent developments in boundary layer instabilities and transition are reviewed. Background disturbance levels determine the instability mechanism that ultimately leads to turbulence. At low noise levels, the traditional Tollmien-Schlichting route is followed, while at high levels, a ‘by-pass’ route is more likely. Our recent work shows that spot birth is related to the pattern of secondary instability in either route.  相似文献
