Abstract

Organic compounds extractable with n-hexane were identified and quantitatively determined in pack, surface and deep snow samples taken at different depths and collected at several altitudes above sea level from Antarctica during the 1993/94 Italian expedition. The comparison between the composition of organic compounds in snow and the ones in pack and sea-water samples pointed out that the three matrices substantially contain the same biogenic and anthropogenic organic compounds. The contribution of marine aerosol to organic content in the snow is confirmed by the enrichment ratios calculated for the more representative classes of identified compounds (n-alkanes, phthalates and low molecular weight alkylbenzenes). The changes in the composition of organic compounds in snow as the altitude increases seem to depend on the dimensional spectrum of the aerosol. Thus, smallest particles, richest in surfactant material, reach the highest altitudes.  相似文献

Increased oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) is characteristic of atherosclerosis. In this frame, high density lipoproteins (HDL) play an important role, being able to remove lipid peroxides (LPOs) and cholesterol from oxidized LDL, so exhibiting a protective role against atherosclerosis. A wide range of reactive compounds lead to the oxidation of methionine (Met) residues with the formation of methionine sulphoxide (MetO) in apolipoprotein A‐I (ApoA‐I). Consequently, the determination of MetO level can give both an evaluation of oxidative stress and the reduced capability of ApoA‐I in LPOs and cholesterol transport. For these reasons, the development of analytical methods able to determine the MetO level is surely of interest, and we report here the results obtained by MALDI mass spectrometry. This paper studies maximum likelihood estimation for a parameterised elliptic diffusion in a manifold. The focus is on asymptotic properties of maximum likelihood estimates obtained from continuous time observation. These are well known when the underlying manifold is a Euclidean space. However, no systematic study exists in the case of a general manifold. The starting point is to write down the likelihood function and equation. This is achieved using the tools of stochastic differential geometry. Consistency, asymptotic normality and asymptotic optimality of maximum likelihood estimates are then proved, under regularity assumptions. Numerical computation of maximum likelihood estimates is briefly discussed.  相似文献

In this article, we consider importance sampling (IS) and sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods in the context of one-dimensional random walks with absorbing barriers. In particular, we develop a very precise variance analysis for several IS and SMC procedures. We take advantage of some explicit spectral formulae available for these models to derive sharp and explicit estimates; this provides stability properties of the associated normalized Feynman–Kac semigroups. Our analysis allows one to compare the variance of SMC and IS techniques for these models. The work in this article is one of the few to consider an in-depth analysis of an SMC method for a particular model-type as well as variance comparison of SMC algorithms.  相似文献

Industrially manufactured titanium dioxide nanoparticles have been successfully radiolabelled with 48V by irradiation with a cyclotron-generated proton beam. Centrifugation tests showed that the 48V radiolabels were stably bound within the nanoparticle structure in an aqueous medium, while X-ray diffraction indicated that no major structural modifications to the nanoparticles resulted from the proton irradiation. In vitro tests of the uptake of cold and radiolabelled nanoparticles using the human cell line Calu-3 showed no significant difference in the uptake between both batches of nanoparticles. The uptake was quantified by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and high resolution γ-ray spectrometry for cold and radiolabelled nanoparticles, respectively. These preliminary results indicate that alterations to the nanoparticles’ properties introduced by proton bombardment can be controlled to a sufficient extent that their further use as radiotracers for biological investigations can be envisaged and elaborated.  相似文献

In this paper two models of damaged materials are presented. The first one describes a structure composed by two adherents and an adhesive which is micro-cracked and subject to two different regimes, one in traction and one in compression. The second model is a model of interface derived from the first one through an asymptotic analysis, and it can be interpreted as a model for contact with adhesion and unilateral constraint. The influence of various solvents on the copolymerization behavior of methyl methacrylate with styrene has been investigated. In these systems there is a significant solvent effect on both rS and rM which may be attributed to changes in the dielectric constant of the solvents used. The calculated relative reactivity of the polystyryl radical towards the methyl methacrylate monomer increases with increasing solvent polarity, whereas the reactivity of poly(methyl methacrylate) radical towards styrene monomer decreases. The results obtained are discussed taking into account the behavior of both monomers in homopolymerization with the same experimental conditions as in copolymerization.  相似文献
