The Loewy length of a tensor product of modules of a dihedral two-group

While the finite-dimensional modules of the dihedral 2-groups over fields of characteristic 2 were classified over 30 years ago, very little is known about the tensor products of such modules. In this article, we compute the Loewy length of the tensor product of two modules of a dihedral 2-group in characteristic 2. As an immediate consequence, we determine when such a tensor product has a projective direct summand.     

Antiproton cloud compression in the ALPHA apparatus at CERN

We have observed a new mechanism for compression of a non-neutral plasma, where antiprotons embedded in an electron plasma are compressed by a rotating wall drive at a frequency close to the sum of the axial bounce and rotation frequencies. The radius of the antiproton cloud is reduced by up to a factor of 20 and the smallest radius measured is ～ 0.2 mm. When the rotating wall drive is applied to either a pure electron or pure antiproton plasma, no compression is observed in the frequency range of interest. The frequency range over which compression is evident is compared to the sum of the antiproton bounce frequency and the system’s rotation frequency. It is suggested that bounce resonant transport is a likely explanation for the compression of antiproton clouds in this regime.     

Improved Preparation of 3,17β-Dihydroxyoestra-1,3,5(10),6-tetraene

The title compound is prepared in good yield via the tosylhydrazone of 3,17β-diacetoxyoestra-1,3,5(10)-triene-6-one (Shapiro reaction)     

A New Photoluminescent Conjugated Poly(1‐hexyl‐3,4‐dimethyl‐2,5‐pyrrolylene): Synthesis,Properties and Characterization

Oxidative coupling reaction of 1‐hexyl–3,4‐dimethylpyrrole affords a conjugated conducting poly(1‐hexyl‐3,4‐dimethyl‐2,5‐pyrrolylene) (PHDP), which is completely soluble in common organic solvents. The luminescence of PHDP is comparable to that of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK), which has been widely used in electroluminescence devices. The quantum efficiency of PHDP is 2.5 times higher than that of PVK. A rationalization is presented relating the conductivity of PHDP to its polymer structure.
