Benzo[b] thiophene derivatives. XVIII. The sulfur isosteres of harmaline,harmine and related isomers

The sulfur analogs of harmaline, 7-methoxy-3,4-dihydro-1-methyl[1]benzothieno[2,3-c]-pyridine (Ib), harmine, 7-methoxy-1-methyl[1]benzothieno[2,3- c ]pyridine (IIb), and corresponding 6-methoxy isomers (Ic and IIc) have been synthesized for pharmacological evaluation as monoamine oxidase inhibitors.     

Bulk and localized oxygen concentration measurements of steam-oxidized zircaloy-4 using nuclear analysis techniques

Quantitative measurement of both bulk and localized oxygen concentrations is of importance in the study of oxidation kinetics. We describe the combined application of two nuclear techniques, fast neutron activation analysis and (d, p) nuclear microprobe, to the determination of oxygen concentrations and surface profiles for steam-oxidized Zircaloy-4 cladding specimens. Results of measurements using these techniques are presented. Work partially supported by Electric Power Research Institute Contract T.S.A. No. 20.     

Hydroboration and diimide reduction of caryophyllene and isocaryophyllene

The monohydroboration of caryophyllene with dicyclohexylborane followed by oxidation brought about the participation of the (E)-trisubstituted double bond in preference to the exocyclic double bond during hydroboration to the corresponding unsaturated alcohol. This alcohol gave the corresponding ketone by oxidation. Isocaryophyllene under similar conditions provided the unsaturated alcohol as the major product, wherein the participation of the exocyclic double bond took place during hydroboration. Our attempts to achieve cyclic hydroboration with caryophyllene or isocaryophyllene using thexylborane resulted in the formation of the corresponding unsaturated alcohol. We achieved partial regioselective reduction of caryophyllene and isocaryphyllene with diimide to produce the corresponding dihydroderivative.     

Regiospecific α-dialkoxymethylation of preformed enolates

Reaction of a preformed lithium enolate and trimethyl orthoformate with added boron trifluoride leads to the corresponding α-dimethoxymethyl ketone.     

Local doses associated with119mSn isomeric transition

The energy absorbed by immediate surrounding of disintegrating^119mSn nuclei have been estimated by comparing the Mössbauer emission spectra of¹¹⁹Sn in some tin compounds with the absorption spectra of the same substances after -irradiation and by simple calculations of Auger electrons energy losses. The results obtained indicate that the observed post-effects of the^119mSn decay are due to self-radiolysis and other processes, whose contributions depend on the individual properties of the matrices.     

Fast formation of aromatic cations in cyclohexane observed by pulse radiolysis

The fast formation of cations of benzophenone, biphenyl, naphthalene, anthracene and phenanthrene in liquid cyclohexane was studied by nanosecond pulse radiolysis. Rate constants between 2.3 × 10¹⁰ M^?1 s^?1 (for naphthalene) and not below 2.5 × 10¹² M^?1 s^?1 (for benzophenone) were derived and compared with the corresponding rate constants for anion formation.

Studies on Alkyl Metal Alkoxides of Aluminium, Gallium, and Indium. III. Properties and Vibrational Spectra of Dialkylgallium- and Indium Alkoxides The preparation and the properties of dialkyl metal alkoxides R₂MOR′ (with R = CH₃, CD₃, C₂H₅; R′ = CH₃, CD₃ and M = Ga, In) are described. The vibrational data (IR and Raman) of the trimeric methyl derivatives point to puckered six-membered M₃O₃-ring systems.     

New Complexes of the Tetrachloro and Tetrabromo Acids of Indium (III) with organic LEWIS Bases

The preparation of the salts of the tetrachloro and tetrabromo acids of indium with the organic LEWIS bases (aniline, pyridine and quinoline) is reported. The physical and chemical properties, as well asI.R. spectra and theX-ray analysis are discussed.     

Lanthanon (III) Complexes of Bifunctional Tridentate and Tetradentate Schiff Bases

Reactions of isopropoxides of praseodymium, neodymium and samarium with bifunctional tridentate and tetradentate schiff bases (i.e. salicylidene-O-aminophenol and bis-salicylaldehyde ethylenediamine) have been carried out in benzene in different stoichiometric ratios resulting in the formation of products with the formula M(OPrⁱ)(C₁₁H₉NO₂), M(C₁₃H₉NO₂)(C₁₃H₁₀NO₂). M₂(C₁₃H₉NO₂) M(OPrⁱ)(C₁₅H₁₄N₂O₂), M(C₁₆H₁₄N₂O₂)(C₁₆H₁₅N₂O₂) and M₂(C₁₆H₁₄N₂O₂)₃ (where M stands for Pr, Nd and Sm). The products were found to be yellow to orange solids soluble in benzene and alcohol. The absorption spectra of these complexes were also recorded in methanol.     

Rapid and sensitive liquid chromatographic determination of carbamazepine suitable for use in monitoring multiple-drug anticonvulsant therapy.

A rapid, sensitive and selective method for the determination of carbamazepine and its major metabolite in plasma has been developed. Other commonly used anticonvulsants can be determined in the same procedure without interference. After extraction with dichloromethane, the components are separated by high-pressure liquid chromatography without further clean-up or concentration on a column packed with small-particle silica gel. The mean recovery from plasma is 98.6% with a relative standard deviation of 1.6%. The detection limit for carbamazepine is approximately 2 ng/ml, requiring 1 ml of plasma.
