Copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes of mono-oxocyclam(5-oxo-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane). Synthetic and potentiometric studies

Summary The macrocyclic mono-oxotetraamine, 5-oxo-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (mono-oxocyclam=LH) has been prepared by reaction of methyl acrylate with 2,3,2-tetra(1,9-diamino-3,7-diazanonane). The protonation constants of the ligand are log K₁=9.40, log K₂=6.65 and log K₃=2.87 at 25 °C (I=0.1 mol dm^–3 NaClO₄). Detailed potentiometric studies of the interaction of the base with copper(II) and nickel(II) have been carried out. In the pH range 2.5–7.0 two complexes, [CuLH]²⁺ and [CuL]⁺, form; the deprotonated complex being 100% abundant at pH 7. For nickel(II), only [NiL]⁺ forms (log _11–1 = 3.90), the yellow low spin nickel complex reaching its maximum concentration above pH 6. The [CuL][ClO₄] · H₂O and [NiL][ClO₄] 0.5 H₂O complexes have been characterised in the solid state. The nickel(II) complex is square planar with a d-d band at 22625 cm^–1.     

DEB-FAPy-dG Adducts of 1,3-Butadiene: Synthesis,Structural Characterization,and Formation in 1,2,3,4-Diepoxybutane Treated DNA**

Metabolic activation of the human carcinogen 1,3-butadiene (BD) by cytochrome 450 monooxygenases gives rise to a genotoxic diepoxide, 1,2,3,4-diepoxybutane (DEB). This reactive electrophile alkylates guanine bases in DNA to produce N7-(2-hydroxy-3,4-epoxy-1-yl)-dG (N7-DE-dG) adducts. Because of the positive charge at the N7 position of the purine heterocycle, N7-DEB-dG adducts are inherently unstable and can undergo spontaneous depurination or base-catalyzed imidazole ring opening to give N⁶-[2-deoxy-D-erythro-pentofuranosyl]-2,6-diamino-3,4-dihydro-4-oxo-5-N-1-(oxiran-2-yl)propan-1-ol-formamidopyrimidine (DEB-FAPy-dG) adducts. Here we report the first synthesis and structural characterization of DEB-FAPy-dG adducts. Authentic standards of DEB-FAPy-dG and its ¹⁵N₃-labeled analogue were used for the development of a quantitative nanoLC-ESI⁺-HRMS/MS method, allowing for adduct detection in DEB-treated calf thymus DNA. DEB-FAPy-dG formation in DNA was dependent on DEB concentration and pH, with higher numbers observed under alkaline conditions.     

High-spin structure of yrast-band in 78Kr

Lifetime of levels up to 22⁺, have been measured in ⁷⁸Kr and an oblate shape is assigned to the ground state using the CSM and the configuration dependent shell correction calculations. Calculations further show that ⁷⁸Kr is highly γ-soft nucleus. The experimental Q _t values coupled with theoretical calculations indicate an oblate shape for ⁷⁸Kr at low spins and triaxial shape at higher spins
