Uniformly oriented macroscopic monodomain of cholesteric blue phase liquid crystal has been realised by the influence of surface anchoring. Orientation of the lattice planes in surface-treated (ST) and non-surface-treated (NST) cell were analysed and compared by Kossel diagram technique. NST cell has revealed the green and blue domains corresponding to reflection from oriented (110) and (112) planes of the body-centred cubic lattice. However, in the ST cell only the lattice plane (110) oriented uniformly and tailored the macroscopic monodomain. Electric field driven reorientation of the (110) lattice plane was noticed in NST cell whereas for ST cell such reorientation was absent. Two distinct electric field-induced capacitive responses have been observed in the two different cells. In NST cell anomalous electrostriction was observed, whereas for ST cell normal electrostriction was observed. Interestingly, the capacitance has decreased with an increasing electric field for anomalous electrostriction in NST cell, whereas for normal electrostriction in ST cell it was increased with increasing the field. Such a capacitive change behaviour is explained by dielectric anisotropic change followed by the electric field induced elongation and contraction of the cubic unit cell along and perpendicular to the electric field.  相似文献

A general method for preparing Fe(4)L(4) face-capped tetrahedral cages through subcomponent self-assembly was developed and has been demonstrated using four different C(3)-symmetric triamines, 2-formylpyridine, and iron(II). Three of the triamines were shown also to form Fe(2)L(3) helicates when the appropriate stoichiometry of subcomponents was used. Two of the cages were observed to have nearly identical Fe-Fe distances in the solid state, which enabled their ligands to be coincorporated into a collection of mixed cages. Only one of the cages combined a sufficiently large cavity with the sufficiently small pores required for guest binding, taking up a wide variety of guest species in size- and shape-selective fashion.  相似文献

A new rhodamine-based receptor, derivatized with an additional fluorophore (quinoline), was synthesized for selective recognition of Hg(2+) and Cr(3+) in an acetonitrile/HEPES buffer medium of pH 7.3. This reagent could be used as a dual probe and allowed detection of these two ions by monitoring changes in absorption and the fluorescence spectral pattern. In both instances, the extent of the changes was significant enough to allow visual detection. More importantly, the receptor molecule could be used as an imaging reagent for detection of Hg(2+) and Cr(3+) uptake in live human cancer cells (MCF7) using laser confocal microscopic studies. Unlike Hg(ClO(4))(2) or Hg(NO(3))(2) salts, HgCl(2) or HgI(2) failed to induce any visually detectable change in color or fluorescence upon interaction with L(1) under identical experimental conditions. Presumably, the higher covalent nature of Hg(II) in HgCl(2) or HgI(2) accounts for its lower acidity and its inability to open up the spirolactam ring of the reagent L(1). The issue has been addressed on the basis of the single-crystal X-ray structures of L(1)·HgX(2) (X(-) = Cl(-) or I(-)) and results from other spectral studies.  相似文献

A gold(I) N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex mediated hydroamination of an alkyne has been modeled using density functional theory (DFT) study. In this regard, alkyne and amine coordination pathways have been investigated for the hydroamination reaction between two representative substrates, namely, MeC≡CH and PhNH(2), catalyzed by a gold(I) NHC based (NHC)AuCl-type precatalyst, namely, [1,3-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene]gold chloride. The amine coordination pathway displayed a lower activation barrier than the alkyne coordination pathway. The catalytic cycle is proposed to proceed via a crucial proton-transfer step occurring between the intermediates [(NHC)AuCH═CMeNH(2)Ph](+) (D) and [(NHC)Au(PhNHMeC═CH(2))](+) (E), the activation barrier of which was found to be significantly reduced by a proton relay mechanism process assisted by the presence of any adventitious H(2)O molecule or even by any of the reacting PhNH(2) substrates. The final hydroaminated enamine product, PhNHMeC═CH(2), was further seen to be stabilized in its tautomeric imine form PhN═CMe(2).  相似文献

A benzimidazole appended triazole linked 1,3-diconjugate of calix[4]arene (L) has been synthesized and characterized. The conjugate L has been found to recognize Cu(2+) among the thirteen different metal ions studied by exhibiting ratiometric fluorescence changes through newly generated excimer band at ~380 nm. Fluorescence off-on-off behavior has been clearly demonstrated on the basis of the binding variability of Cu(2+) to L. The binding has been elicited through the changes observed in the fluorescence, ESI MS and (1)H NMR titrations. All the other metal ions studied do not show any new band and further do not interfere with the recognition of Cu(2+) by L, even when these are present in the same medium. The structural features of both the mono- and di-nuclear complexes were established by DFT computational calculations and found to display highly distorted geometry about the copper centers that deviate from both the tetrahedral and the square planar.  相似文献

Molecular association and keto-enol tautomerization of β-cyclohexanedione (β-CHD) have been investigated in argon matrix and also in a thin solid film prepared by depositing pure β-CHD vapor on a cold (8 K) KBr window. Infrared spectra reveal that, in low-pressure vapor and argon matrix, the molecules are exclusively in diketo tautomeric form. The CH···O hydrogen bonded dimers of the diketo tautomer are produced by annealing the matrix at 28 K. No indication is found for keto-enol tautomerization of β-CHD in dimeric complexes in argon matrix within the temperature range of 8-28 K. On the other hand, in thin film of pure diketo tautomer, the conversion initiates only when the film is heated at temperatures above 165 K. The observed threshold appears to be associated with excitation of the intermolecular modes, and the IR spectra recorded at high temperatures display narrowing of vibrational bandwidths, which has been associated with reorientations of the molecules in the film. The nonoccurrence of tautomerization of the matrix isolated dimer is consistent with the barrier predicted by electronic structure calculations at B3LYP/6-311++G** and MP2/6-311++G** levels of theory. The transition state calculation predicts that CH···O interaction has a dramatic effect on lowering of the tautomerization barrier, from more than 60 kcal/mol for the bare molecule to ~35-45 kcal/mol for dimers.  相似文献

The iron oxide nanoparticles were transformed to a matrix of iron-iron oxide on the graphene surface at an elevated temperature in a H(2)/Ar atmosphere. The resultant iron-iron oxide dispersed graphene was highly porous, robust and attractive for a variety of potential applications.  相似文献
