Multiple octupole excitations in 148Gd

The lifetime and the -decay to the 0⁺ ground state of the lowest 3^- state in ¹⁴⁸Gd has been determined. The reduced strength B(E3, 3^- 0⁺)=41 (6) W.u. agrees well with the theoretical value from empirical shell model calculations and can be directly compared with the 12⁺ 9^- two-octupole-phonon one-octupole-phonon strength obtained in the same Recoil Distance Method lifetime measurement. The results of our search for a three octupole-phonon state built on the state is also reported. Received: 7 March 2000 / Accepted: 12 May 2000     

g-factors in the ground state and in the γ-bands in 160,162,164Dy

The g-factors of some members of the ground state band and of the 2⁺ state in the %-vibrational band have been measured in ^160,162,164Dy using the Coulomb Excitation Transient Field technique, induced by ⁵⁸Ni projectiles at 230, 210 and 217 MeV, respectively. The g-factors in the ground state band are consistent with a constant value, while that of the 2⁺_% states is about 20% larger in average than those in the ground state band. Results are discussed in the frame of the systematics in this nuclear region.     

DSAM lifetimes of the ground state band in48Cr

Lifetimes have been determined in the ground state band in⁴⁸Cr and found in agreement with Shell Model calculations.     

Precision frequency measurement of visible intercombination lines of strontium

We report the direct frequency measurement of the visible 5s(2) 1S0-5s5p 3P1 intercombination line of strontium that is considered a possible candidate for a future optical-frequency standard. The frequency of a cavity-stabilized laser is locked to the saturated fluorescence in a thermal Sr atomic beam and is measured with an optical-frequency comb generator referenced to the SI second through a global positioning system signal. The 88Sr transition is measured to be at 434 829 121 311 (10) kHz. We measure also the 88Sr-86Sr isotope shift to be 163 817.4 (0.2) kHz.     

Spectroscopic quadrupole moments of high-spin isomers in 193 Pb

The quadrupole interaction of high-spin isomers in ¹⁹³Pb implanted into solid Hg cooled at a temperature T = 170 K has been investigated by the time-differential perturbed -ray angular-distribution method. Spectroscopic quadrupole moment values of eb and 0.45(4) eb have been deduced for the 21/2^- and 33/2 ⁺ three-neutron states, respectively. Role of kinetic effects on the polarization current around a magnetic island

The polarization current due to a magnetic island rotating in a tokamak plasma is believed to play a central role in the initial evolution of the neoclassical tearing mode. Monte Carlo delta f simulations are performed which also cover a parameter range that is not amenable to analytic treatment but is relevant to experiments. It is shown that the polarization current can change sign when the island rotation frequency is of the order of the ion parallel streaming around the island. Moreover, the current is reduced when the island width is of the order of the ion banana width. Finally, the transition to the enhanced high-collisionality regime is shown to occur for collision frequencies higher than those typical of today's experiments.     

Phenylpropanoid glycosides in Italian Orobanche spp., sect. Orobanche

We studied the occurrence of phenylpropanoid glycosides (PhG) in five species of the genus Orobanche L., collected in the Latium region of Italy. The presence of orobanchoside and verbascoside in all four species confirms that these PhGs are taxonomic markers of the genus. The results suggest that O. gracilis form. citrina could be a diverse entity.     

A comparative chemotaxonomic study on Vinca sardoa steam and Vinca difformis pourret

The phytochemical analysis of iridoidic fraction of the aerial parts of Vinca sardoa and Vinca difformis, gave the identification of loganic acid in V. difformis as unique iridoid glucoside, while loganin is also present in V. sardoa. The two taxa highly differ in alkaloids, so the chemotaxonomic classification in two different species is supported.     

Coulomb energy differences between isobaric analogue states in 70Br and 70Se

Gamma ray transitions de-exciting states in the N = Z nucleus ⁷⁰Br have been identified for the first time using the GASP and EUROBALL arrays coupled with ancillary detectors. The level scheme of ⁷⁰Br has been established by means of particle-gated γ-γ and γ-γ-γ coincidences. The Coulomb energy differences between isobaric analogue states in ⁷⁰Br and ⁷⁰Se show a deviation from the expected behaviour which could be related to dripline effects.
