Abstract— The inhibition of cytokine and monoclonal antibody binding to cell surfaces caused by an extract of Psychotria acuminata, a medicinal plant used in the traditional medicine of the people of Belize (Central America), was attributed to the presence of pheophorbide a and pyropheophorbide a Since the binding of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-8, complement factor 5a as well as epidermal growth factor to target cells was dramatically reduced, the inhibition was not receptor or cytokine specific. In addition, the respective binding of radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies CL203 and R15.7 to the cell surface antigens intracellular cell adhesion molecule-1 and lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 ß-chain was decreased by pretreatment of cells with pheophorbide a as well. In all cases, the inhibition by pheophorbides was dependent on the simultaneous presence of light, indicating causative involvement of a photodynamic process. These observations are not unique to pheophorbides and can be extended to porphyrins as well as to other photodynamic agents. Cytotoxicity resulting from photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been documented by many studies. Our investigations suggest that the inactivation of cell surface receptors contributes not only to the antitumor effect of PDT but also to the systemic immunosuppression, a serious side effect of PDT.  相似文献

The properties of the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium salt of the dinuclear mu(4)-(O,O,O',O'-ethane-1,2-dioato)bis[bis(nitrato-O,O)dioxouranate(VI)] anion have been investigated using electrochemistry, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and extended X-ray absorbance fine structure spectroscopy: the anion structures from these last two techniques are in excellent agreement with each other. Electrochemical reduction of the complex leads to the a two-electron metal-centered reduction of U(VI) to U(IV), and the production of UO(2), or a complex containing UO(2). Under normal conditions, this leads to the coating of the electrode with a passivating film. The presence of volatile organic compounds in the ionic liquids 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate (where the 1-alkyl chain was methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, dodecyl, hexadecyl, or octadecyl) during the oxidative dissolution of uranium(IV) oxide led to the formation of a yellow precipitate. To understand the effect of the cation upon the composition and structure of the precipitates, 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium salts of a number of nitratodioxouranate(VI) complexes were synthesized and then analyzed using X-ray crystallography. It was demonstrated that the length of the 1-alkyl chain played an important role, not only in the composition of the complex salt, but also in the synthesis of dinuclear anions containing the bridging mu(4)-(O,O,O',O'-ethane-1,2-dioato), or oxalato, ligand, by protecting it from further oxidation.  相似文献

Ionic liquids have been used in combination with ball milling on a range of chlorophosphoramidite reagents to phosphitylate nucleosides and 2-deoxynucleosides. The enhanced stability offered by the ionic liquid mediated processes combined with efficient mass transfer induced by ball milling has enabled excellent yields to be obtained even when using small dialkyl amino groups as well as the more commonly used diisopropylamino protection.  相似文献

Functionalized ionic liquids containing the tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate (FAP) anion were used as extraction solvents in dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) for the extraction of 14 emerging contaminants from water samples. The extraction efficiencies and selectivities were compared to those of an in situ IL DLLME method which uses an in situ metathesis reaction to exchange 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIM-Cl) to 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide (BMIM-NTf(2)). Compounds containing tertiary amine functionality were extracted with high selectivity and sensitivity by the 1-(6-amino-hexyl)-1-methylpyrrolidinium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate (HNH(2)MPL-FAP) IL compared to other FAP-based ILs and the BMIM-NTf(2) IL. On the other hand, polar or acidic compounds without amine groups exhibited higher enrichment factors using the BMIM-NTf(2) IL. The detection limits for the studied analytes varied from 0.1 to 55.1 μg/L using the traditional IL DLLME method with the HNH(2)MPL-FAP IL as extraction solvent, and from 0.1 to 55.8 μg/L using in situ IL DLLME method with BMIM-Cl+LiNTf(2) as extraction solvent. A 93-fold decrease in the detection limit of caffeine was observed when using the HNH(2)MPL-FAP IL compared to that obtained using in situ IL DLLME method. Real water samples including tap water and creek water were analyzed with both IL DLLME methods and yielded recoveries ranging from 91% to 110%.  相似文献

The 13C nmr spectrum of nicotine is assigned in Acetone-d6, DMSO-d6, Pyridine-d5, and deuterium oxide (pD 10.7, 5.4, < 1). Attention is focused on assignment of the closely-spaced C(2) and C(6) resonances, using selective decoupling, population transfer, and long-range coupling constant measurements. C(2) resonates at lower field in the organic solvents hut at higher field in deuterium oxide at all pD values investigated.  相似文献

A mathematical model describing the coupling of electrical,optical and thermal effects in semiconductor lasers is introduced.Numerical and asymptotic solutions are derived, including expressionsfor key physical quantities such as the initial time delay,the frequency of spike oscillation and the temperature rise,together with its influence on the photon density, the electronconcentration and the threshold current. Ionic liquids (ILs) are promising gas chromatography (GC) stationary phases due to their high thermal stability, negligible vapor pressure, and ability to solvate a broad range of analytes. The tunability of ILs allows for structure modification in pursuit of enhanced separation selectivity and control of analyte elution order. In this study, the solvation parameter model is used to characterize the solvation interactions of fifteen ILs containing various cationic functional groups (i.e., dimethylamino, hydroxyl, and ether) and cation types paired with various counter anions, namely, tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate (FAP(-)), bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide (NTf(2)(-)), thiocyanate (SCN(-)), tricyanomethide (C(CN)(3)(-)), tetracyanoborate (B(CN)(4)(-)), and bis[oxalate(2-)]borate (BOB(-)). The presence of functional groups affected the hydrogen bond basicity, hydrogen bond acidity, as well as dispersion interactions of the resulting ILs, while the change of cation type yielded modest influence on the dipolarity. The switch of counter anions in unfunctionalized ILs produced compounds with higher dipolarity and hydrogen bond basicity. The dipolarity and hydrogen bond basicity of ILs possessing cyano-containing anions appeared to be inversely proportional to the cyano content of the anion. The modification of IL structure resulted in a significant effect on the retention behavior as well as separation selectivity for many solutes, including reversed elution orders of some analytes. This study provides one of the most comprehensive examinations up-to-date on the relation between IL structure and the resulting solvation characteristics and gives tremendous insight into choosing suitable ILs as GC stationary phases for solute specific separations.  相似文献

The selective electroreduction N-methylphthalimide to 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-isoindolin-1-one has been performed in ionic liquids using phenol as a proton donor under silent and ultrasonic conditions. A significant increase in the rate of electroreduction is shown using ultrasonic activation and in addition high current efficiencies were observed. Some decomposition of the ionic liquid was found to have occurred under exposure to ultrasound.  相似文献
