Modeling the Dynamics of the Xylene Soluble Fraction (XS) in a Bulk Propylene Polymerization Process

A model is built to describe the dynamic trajectories of the xylene soluble fraction (XS) in an industrial bulk propylene polymerization process. Emphasis is given to the coupling between the XS dynamics and the reactor liquid bleed policy. It is shown that cocatalyst recirculation can affect the dynamics of the cocatalyst/donor ratio and consequently the dynamics of XS during polymerization. Simulation results indicate that the effect of the reactor liquid bleed operation and of the cocatalyst/donor ratio upon the XS trajectories can be minimized if PI controllers are designed to control the propane concentration and to increase the speed of the cocatalyst/donor transitions. Finally, it is shown that the model is able to reproduce the dynamic XS profile obtained during a large XS transition at plant site.

     

Fatty acids as chemotaxonomic markers of marine macrophytes from Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil

The distribution of fatty acids in 13 species of macroalgae (Chlorophyta, Ochrophyta and Rhodophyta) and 1 seagrass (Spartina sp), collected on the Rio de Janeiro state coast was determined. The results were evaluated in search of correlations between the taxonomic and phylogenetic position of these macrophytes. Statistical analyses showed the effectiveness as taxonomic and phylogenetic markers of the distribution of the methyl fatty acid esters in these macrophytes.     

Thermochemistry of diphenic anhydride. A combined experimental and theoretical study

The standard (p°?=?0.1?MPa) molar enthalpy of formation for solid and gaseous diphenic anhydride (2,2′-biphenyldicarboxylic anhydride, dibenz[c,e]oxepin-5,7-dione) was derived from the standard molar enthalpy of combustion, in oxygen, at T?=?298.15?K, measured by static bomb combustion calorimetry, and the standard molar enthalpy of sublimation, at T?=?298.15?K, measured by Calvet microcalorimetry: ?(258.4?±?4.9) kJ?mol^?1. In addition, ab initio and density functional theory calculations have been performed at a variety of levels. The degree of aromaticity of diphenic anhydride is discussed in the context of other oxygen-containing (ring and keto) heterocycles and related carbocycles: this species is surprisingly destabilized.     

Industriall Control of the Filtration in the Beer Manufacturing Process

In the aim to improve the filtration process in the beer ma nufacture, a study on the beer turbidity have been made using two different techniques: nephelometry and V-UV spectrometry. Even though the former is the most commonly used, we propose the use of V-UV spectrometry since it is possible to follow the performace - of all the filtration line, not only in a punctual way but in a - wide range of wavelenghts. From the results of this work we deduce that V-UV spectrometry offers a better quality of results than nephelometry, being more useful in rutin periodic controls.     

NMR Analysis of a Complex Spin System from a Siruo-Chamigrene

The compound 2,10-dibromo-3-chloro-8-hydroxy-β-chamigrene was analysed in detail by NMR Spectroscopy. the complete assignment of the signals in the ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectra and the determination of the relative configurations were achieved by 2D NMR techniques, AM1 data and ¹H spectrum simulation. Comparisons of the results with related spiro chamigrene systems are also presented.     

An adaptive control scheme for a continuous plant under Known output delay, unmodelled dynamics, and input saturation

This paper deals with robustness of adaptive control of continuoussystems subject to known output delay, input saturation, unmodelledlinear dynamics, and bounded disturbances. A simple gradient-typealgorithm with a relative deadzone is used. The relative deadzoneis built with an estimated contribution of the unmodelled dynamicsto the system output. The basic tool used for stability androbustness analysis is Gronwall's lemma.     

Study of ionizing radiation on the properties of polyamide 6 with fiberglass reinforcement

The use of polymers reinforced with fiberglass is becoming more and more common in the switches for household industries. These compounds perform a good tension resistance to the impact and the humidity absorption being used at the present time and also are in the automobile industry in parts underneath the hood, especially in the radiator frames. The aim of this work is to study the effect of ionizing radiation on the properties of polyamide 6 with fiberglass reinforcement and undergone to different irradiation doses. Samples were prepared and irradiated on JOB 188 accelerator with an electron beam energy of 1.5 MeV in air with different doses and a dose rate of 27.99 kGy/h. Afterward, the properties of the non-irradiated and irradiated polyamide 6 with fiberglass reinforcement were evaluated.     

Study of magnetoresistance and conductance of bicrystal grain boundary in La0.67Ba0.33MnO3 thin film

La_0.67Ba_0.33MnO₃ (LBMO) thin film is deposited on a 36.7°C SrTiO₃ bicrystal substrate using laser ablation technique. A microbridge is created across bicrystal grain boundary and its characteristics are compared with a microbridge on the LBMO film having no grain boundary. Presence of grain boundary exhibits substantial magnetoresistance ratio (MRR) in the low field and low temperature region. Bicrystal grain boundary contribution in MRR disappears at temperature T>175 K. At low temperature, I-V characteristic of the microbridge across bicrystal grain boundary is nonlinear. Analysis of temperature dependence of dynamic conductance-voltage characteristics of the bicrystal grain boundary indicates that at low temperatures (T<175 K) carrier transport across the grain boundary in LBMO film is dominated by inelastic tunneling via pairs of manganese atoms and tunneling through disordered oxides. At higher temperatures (T>175 K), magnetic scattering process is dominating. Decrease of bicrystal grain boundary contribution in magnetoresistance with the increase in temperature is due to enhanced spin-flip scattering process.     

BiFeO3 thin films: Novel effects

In this paper we report synthesis of phase-pure highly resistive magnetoelectric BiFeO₃ thin films on Pt/TiO₂/SiO₂/Si substrate by using pulsed laser deposition technique. For the first time saturated ferroelectric hysteresis loop has been observed. It has confirmed the presence of ferroelectricity in BiFeO₃ compound. The films exhibit dielectric anomaly near Neel temperature. This anomaly is related to the influence of vanishing magnetic order on the electric order. In situ domain alignment occurs during observation of the films under transmission electron microscope.     

Monadic dynamic algebras

The main purpose of this work is to introduce the class of the monadic dynamic algebras (dynamic algebras with one quantifier). Similarly to a theorem of Kozen we establish that every separable monadic dynamic algebra is isomorphic to a monadic (possibly non‐standard) Kripke structure. We also classify the simple (monadic) dynamic algebras. Moreover, in the dynamic duality theory, we analyze the conditions under which a hemimorphism of a dynamic algebra into itself defines a quantifier. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
