The interaction and fusion of arbitrarily oriented deformed nuclei

The fusion/capture cross sections between various deformed nuclei are calculated. It is shown that quadrupole and hexadecapole deformations of heavy nuclei are important for evaluating the barrier height, capture well depth, and fusion/capture cross sections of heavy nuclei. It is found that calculations of the capture cross section of two heavy deformed nuclei must be performed with averaging over all possible mutual orientations of the colliding nuclei.

Intermediate energy elastic scattering of protons on 24Mg in the $ \alpha$ -cluster model with dispersion

The -cluster model with dispersion has been developed for the case of the ²⁴Mg nucleus. The ²⁴Mg nucleus is considered as composed of the core ( ¹⁶O nucleus) and two -clusters that form a dumbbell configuration and are arranged with the most probability inside the core. In the calculations the -cluster structure of the core has been taken into account. On the basis of the multiple diffraction scattering theory the differential cross-section and the polarization observables for the elastic p - ²⁴Mg scattering at 800 and 250MeV have been calculated. The results obtained are in agreement with the existing experimental data.     

Identification of peroxo groups in supramolecular layered structures as probed by Raman spectroscopy

Peroxide-containing supramolecular structures prepared by reacting lithium aluminum layered double hydroxides (Li-Al LDHs) with concentrated hydrogen peroxide solutions were characterized by Raman spectroscopy. These compounds were formulated as [LiAl₂(OH)₆](OH) · H₂O₂ · H₂O(I) and [LiAl₂(OH)₆](OOH) · H₂O₂ · H₂O(II). The frequencies 830 and 849 cm⁻¹ in the spectra of compounds I and II were assigned to O—C stretching vibrations in two nonequivalent peroxo groups. The band at 866 cm⁻¹ in compound II was assigned to O—O vibrations in the hydroperoxo group (OOH)⁻. Proceeding from calculated strength factors, we inferred that the O—O bond in the hydroperoxo group of compound II is stronger than in the H₂O₂ solvating group. Original Russian Text ? T.A. From biomass to medicines. A simple synthesis of indolo[3,2-c]quinolines, antimalarial alkaloid isocryptolepine, and its derivatives

Indolo[3,2-c]quinolines are pharmacologically attractive class of heterocyclic compounds. The method of their synthesis, based on transformation of furfural, which is a large-scale product of treatment of biomass including agricultural and forestry wastes, has been developed. This method was utilized for the total synthesis of antimalarial alkaloid isocryptolepine and its derivatives.     

Adsorption characteristics of lysozyme on silochrome at different pH values

It is established that the adsorption of lysozyme on silochrome proceeds by a two-stage scheme that includes equilibrium adsorption and irreversible multipoint binding, complicated by the association of surface protein. It is shown that, a substantial change in the mechanism of adsorption occurs in dependence on pH. The density of the monolayer increases with increasing pH in the range of 6?C10. The rate constants of adsorption and sites occupied by a molecule of protein at different pH values are calculated.     

A study of the effect of metal corrosion inhibitors on the hydrogenation of steel and changes in its plasticity upon etching in sulfuric acid solutions

Effect of metal corrosion inhibitors, N-acetylmethylpyridium salts, on the hydrogen charging of 08 KP steel and changes in its plasticity upon its etching in solutions of 3 M sulfuric acid. Inhibitors more strongly diminishing the fraction of hydrogen atoms diffusing into the steel and preserving or raising its plasticity as compared with the shipment level were found.
