Synthesis and properties of 2-substituted 5-chloro-1,3-oxazole-4-carboxamides

Chlorination of 2-aryl-5-benzylsulfanyl-1,3-oxazole-4-carbonitrile in aqueous acetic acid at 50–60°C afforded new 2-aryl-5-chloro-1,3-oxazole-4-carboxamides. The reactivity of the chlorine atom with respect to the N-, O-, and S-nucleophiles was investigated.     

Evolution of a stress-driven pattern in thin bilayer films: spinodal wrinkling

We report the full spectrum of the evolution of the wrinkle pattern formation in a thin bilayer film of an elastic metal on a viscoelastic polymer. Although the origin is different, the transition of an initial islandlike pattern to a labyrinthine structure without any change in the wavelength (q approximately t(0)) and the overall evolutionary process is strikingly similar to that in the spinodal system but the process is robust and takes place on a long time scale (about 10 days). The change into a mountainous topography in the late stages is accompanied by an increase in the length scale from an initial wavelength to another. This change, due to the relaxation of the confined polymer that results in a transition from elastic- to viscouslike behavior, induces wave coarsening (q approximately t(-1.04+/-0.08)) and macroscopic roughening.     

3,5-Disubstituted 6H-pyrrolo[1,2-c][1,2,3]triazoles from Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts of propargyl aldehydes

A simple method for synthesizing several 6H-pyrrolo[1,2-c][1,2,3]triazole derivatives having a methoxycarbonyl or an acetyl group at C-5 position and 7,8-dihydro-4H-[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]indol-5(6H)-ones via an intramolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azido enynes, which were readily obtained from the Morita-Baylis-Hillman acetates of propargyl aldehydes with sodium azide, has been developed.     

Microbial electricity generation of diversified carbonaceous electrodes under variable mediators

To evaluate a suitable electrode material for the efficient green energy generation of a bio-fuel cell, carbonaceous based carbon cloth, carbon paper, and carbon felt electrodes were investigated under different mediators. The larger surface area, low resistance, and open network of interwoven fibers of the carbon felt electrode facilitated higher electron transfer from the microbial organisms to the electrode surface than that of other carbonaceous electrodes. Carbon paper electrode exhibited lower fuel cell performances due to its lower roughness and high tortuous nature. The green power generation experiments were also carried out under different mediators such as 2-hydroxy-l,4-naphthoquinone and thionin. The electrons mitigation and power generation was augmented by 2-hydroxy-l,4-naphthoquinone than thionin due to its high solubility, stability, and minimal adsorption characteristic to the electrodes. By the combined efforts of extended electrons generation and transportation, bio-fuel cell performances were extended and endorsed its doable applications in bio-fuel cells.     

Lithium-induced supramolecular hydrogel

We describe a novel anisotropic supramolecular gel made of cyclodextrin-dye, in which physical gelation is completed by lithium salt. Rheological experiment reveals the elastic behaviors of the hydrogel, and high ionic conductivity represents a good mobility of ions inside the gel matrix.     

Efficient photosensitized oxygenations in phase contact enhanced microreactors

A transparent dual-channel microreactor with highly enhanced contact area-to-volume ratio was fabricated for efficient photosensitized oxygenations. The dual-channel microreactor shielded with polyvinylsilazane (PVSZ) consisting of an upper channel for liquid flow and a lower channel for O(2) flow, allows sufficient phase contact along the parallel channels through a gas permeable PDMS membrane for maintaining the O(2) saturated solution. Under full exposure of reactants to light, the reactions in high concentration are completed in minutes rather than hours that it takes to complete in a batch reactor. Moreover, the scale-up process using the microreactor revealed higher productivity than the batch reactor, which would be valuable for the practical applications in a broad range of gas-liquid chemical reactions.     

Generic initial ideals of Artinian ideals having Lefschetz properties or the strong Stanley property

For a standard Artinian k-algebra A=R/I, we give equivalent conditions for A to have the weak (or strong) Lefschetz property or the strong Stanley property in terms of the minimal system of generators of gin(I). Using the equivalent condition for the weak Lefschetz property, we show that some graded Betti numbers of gin(I) are determined just by the Hilbert function of I if A has the weak Lefschetz property. Furthermore, for the case that A is a standard Artinian k-algebra of codimension 3, we show that every graded Betti number of gin(I) is determined by the graded Betti numbers of I if A has the weak Lefschetz property. And if A has the strong Lefschetz (respectively Stanley) property, then we show that the minimal system of generators of gin(I) is determined by the graded Betti numbers (respectively by the Hilbert function) of I.     

Spironolactone and its Complexes with β-cyclodextrin: Modern NMR Characterization and Structural DFTB-SCC Calculations

In the present work, inclusion complexes of spironolactone (SP) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in solid phase and aqueous solution were studied by solubility methods, NMR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. The results showed different kinds of complexations when freeze-drying and kneading methods were used. The freeze-drying product (1:1, SP:β-CD) showed lower degree of complexation and stability than the (1:2, SP:β-CD) compound obtained by kneading method. The spironolactone molecule was also studied by NMR spectroscopy at 400 MHz. The chemical shifts of all spironolactone atoms and their inclusion compounds were assigned. Extensive use of 1D and 2D NMR techniques, including ROESY experiment, allowed verifying the position of the spironolactone molecule inside the cyclodextrin cavity in both situations. In addition, DFTB-SCC quantum mechanical calculations of the inclusion compounds were performed. The predicted structural properties are in good agreement with ROESY NMR results.     

Gaps of operators

We construct examples which distinguish clearly the classes of p-hyponormal operators for 0<p?∞. In addition, we show that those examples classify the classes of w-hyponormal, absolute-p-paranormal, and normaloid operators on the complex Hilbert space. Only a few examples of p-hyponormal operators have been examined. Our technique can provide many examples related to the above operators.
