Reaction of sulfenes with heterocyclic N,N-disubstituted α-aminomethyleneketones. XII. Synthesis of [1]benzothiepino[4,5-e][1,2]oxathiin derivatives

The 1,4-cycloaddition of sulfene to N,N-disubstituted (E)-4-aminomethylene-3,4-dihydro[1]benzothiepin-5(2H)-ones I occurred only in the case of aliphatic N,N-disubstitution to give in good yield 4-dialkylamino-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro[1]benzothiepino[4,5-e][1,2]oxathiin 2,2-dioxides, which are derivatives of the new heterocyclic system [1]benzothiepino[4,5-e][1,2]oxathiin. Also the reaction of I with chlorosulfene occurred only in the case of aliphatic N,N-disubstitution to afford chiefly trans-4-dialkylamino-3-chloro-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-[1]benzothiepino[4,5-e][1,2]oxathiin 2,2-dioxides III in satisfactory yield. Adducts III were dehydrochlorinated with DBN to 4-dialkylamino-5,6-dihydro[1]benzothiepino[4,5-e][1,2]oxathiin 2,2-dioxides in good yield.     

Solution-phase microwave-assisted synthesis of unsubstituted and modified alpha-quinque- and sexithiophenes

The facile synthesis of poorly soluble unsubstituted and modified alpha-quinque- and sexithiophenes under microwave irradiation in the liquid phase is described. The use of microwave irradiation allowed these compounds to be prepared in a few minutes and at high yields by means of the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. Unsubstituted sexithiophene was obtained in 10 min via the one-pot borylation/Suzuki reaction, purified according to a very simple procedure, and isolated in 84% yield. The efficient synthesis of two new methylated quinque- and sexithiophenes displaying liquid crystalline properties is reported. A new microwave-assisted methodology for the conversion of aldehyde-terminated quinque- and sexithiophenes into the corresponding cyano derivatives is also described. The use of microwaves was extended to the Sonogashira coupling reaction and found to be very effective in the preparation of a quinquethiophene containing acetylenic spacers. The electronic and optical characterization of this compound is reported and discussed in relation to that of unsubstituted quinquethiophene.     

Threshold-photoelectron-spectroscopy-coincidence study of the double photoionization of HBr

A threshold-photoelectron-coincidence spectrum of HBr has been recorded in the 32.2-35.8 eV photon energy range, with a resolution of approximately 0.01 eV, using a synchrotron radiation source. The X (3)Sigma(-) and a (1)Delta(2) states of the HBr(2+) dication are clearly observed in the spectrum, while there is no clear evidence for the formation of the b (1)Sigma(+) electronic state. For the first two states, the vibrational states v=0-3 have been resolved, while for the ground X (3)Sigma(-) state also spin-orbit splitting has been detected. The results appear in good agreement with previous experimental observations. A comparison with theoretical predictions indicates the role of "noncovalent" contributions to the interaction between the two atomic partners for the formation of metastable states.     

Reaction of sulfene with heterocyclic N,N-disubstituted α-aminomethyleneketones. VIII. Synthesis of furo[2,3-h]-1,2-benzoxathiin derivatives

Cycloaddition of sulfene to N,N-disubstituted (E)5-aminomethylene-6,7-dihydrobenzo[b]furan-4(5H)ones I gave, only in the case of aliphatic N-substitution and generally in satisfactory yields, N,N-disubstituted 4-amino-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrofuro[2,3-h]-1,2-benzoxathiin 2,2-dioxides II, which are derivatives of the new heterocyclic system furo[2,3-h]-1,2-benzoxathiin. The 4-dimethylamino and 4-piperidino cycloadducts IIa,e were dehydrogenated with DDQ to the corresponding 4-dialkylamino-3,4-dihydrofuro[2,3-h]-1,2-benzoxathiin 2,2-dioxides IIIa,e in low yield. Compounds IIIa,e were tested for photobiological activity and found to be inactive.     

Indole alkaloids from the roots of an african plant securidaca longipedunculata. I. Isolation by column chromatography and preliminary structural characterization by mass spectrometry

The extraction and the isolation of some alkaloids from the roots of an African plant (Securidaca Longipedunculata Fres) are reported. The structural characterization was performed by mass spectrometry. Alternative ionization methods (FAB and EI), collisionally-induced decomposition experiments and accurate mass measurements revealed the presence of elymoclavine and dehydroelymoclavine and the presence of a new ergoline alkaloid.     

Surface Tension, Heat Capacity, and Volume of Amphiphilic Compounds in Formamide Solutions

Density measurements of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), sodium decyl sulfate (SDeS), sodium octyl sulfate(SOS), and sodium hexyl sulfate(SHS) in formamide (FA) as functions of the surfactant concentrations were carried out at 25°C. For SDS in FA, additional density measurements at 35 and 60°C and surface tension and specific heat capacity measurements at 25°C were also performed. From density and specific heat capacity data, the apparent molar volume and heat capacity of the surfactants as functions of concentration were calculated. The surface excess of SDS at the solution–air interface was also determined from the surface tension measurements using the Gibbs adsorption equation. Under our experimental conditions, none of the experimental results evidence micelle formation. In addition, volumetric studies of the hexanol–SDS–FA ternary system at 25°C evidence only interactions between the dispersed surfactant and alcohol.     

Electron impact and field desorption mass spectrometry of some macrocyclic-acyclic polyether-ester compounds

The electron impact mass spectrometric behaviour of a series of macrocyclic-acyclic polyether-ester compounds containing an isoxazole, benzene or pyridine ring is discussed in detail with the aid of exact mass measurements and metastable ions (linked scans B/E and B²/E). The nature of unusual [M+H]⁺ species, present in the crown moieties only, is elucidated by means of low electron energy measurements and labelling experiments. The field desorption spectra show only intense peaks corresponding to [M+H]⁺ species and rule out the presence of dimeric moieties.     

Reaction of sulfene with heterocyclic N,N-disubstituted α-aminomethyleneketones. XI. Synthesis of 1,2-oxathiino[5,6-d]-1-benzoxepin derivatives

The 1,4-cycloaddition of sulfene to N,N-disubstituted (E)-4-aminomethylene-3,4-dihydro-1-benzoxepin-5(2H)-ones gave, generally in excellent yield, N,N-disubstituted 4-amino-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1,2-oxathiino-[5,6-d)-1-benzoxepin 2,2-dioxides, which are derivatives of the new heterocyclic system 1,2-oxathiino[5,6-d]-1-benzoxepin. This reaction did not occur only with the N,N-diphenylenaminone.     

Oxime-based methods for synthesis of stereodefined acyclic polyfunctionalized δ-azido-nitriles and 5-substituted isoxazoles from carbohydrate derivatives

Hydroxylamine-mediated syntheses of stereodefined acyclic polyfunctionalized δ-azido-nitriles and 5-substituted isoxazoles, bearing a differentially protected glycerol moiety, from 2-deoxysugars and glycals are described.
