While the number of models dedicated to predicting the consequences of alternative resource management strategies has increased, instances in which authors look back at past predictions to learn from discrepancies between these and observed developments are scarce. In the past decades, the French Guiana shrimp fishery has experienced shrimp market globalization and decreasing levels of shrimp recruitment due to environmental changes. In 2006, a bio‐economic model of this fishery was developed to simulate its possible responses to economic and environmental scenarios up to 2016. Here, we compare here these predictions to the observed trajectories. While the number of active vessels corresponds to that which was predicted, the estimated shrimp stock does not. Important driving factors had not been anticipated, including a general strike, natural disasters, and the end of the global financial crisis. These results show the importance of participative approaches involving stakeholders in the co‐construction and shared representation of scenarios. Recommendations for resource managers
- Effective fisheries resources management and a fortiori, the capacity of the fisheries to adapt to global change, requires understanding of both ecological and economics dynamics.
- The temporal trajectory of the trawling shrimp fisheries has been well monitored, and the decline of both stock and fleet is understood regarding ecological and economic changes: Changes in the environmental conditions of shrimp recruitment, and oil price increase and selling price decrease.
- However, our bio‐economic modeling work showed that, even with a good understanding of the dynamics explaining past trajectories, unpredictable events (strike, natural disasters…) have acted as other key driving factors altering the capacity of the model to represent possible futures.
- These results led us to recommend a better integration of the expertise of social and political scientists in developing models of bio‐economic systems to increase the quality of scenario predictions, and to argue for more participative approaches involving the stakeholders.

This article is concerned with the numerical solution of the full dynamical von Kármán plate equations for geometrically nonlinear (large‐amplitude) vibration in the simple case of a rectangular plate under periodic boundary conditions. This system is composed of three equations describing the time evolution of the transverse displacement field, as well as the two longitudinal displacements. Particular emphasis is put on developing a family of numerical schemes which, when losses are absent, are exactly energy conserving. The methodology thus extends previous work on the simple von Kármán system, for which longitudinal inertia effects are neglected, resulting in a set of two equations for the transverse displacement and an Airy stress function. Both the semidiscrete (in time) and fully discrete schemes are developed. From the numerical energy conservation property, it is possible to arrive at sufficient conditions for numerical stability, under strongly nonlinear conditions. Simulation results are presented, illustrating various features of plate vibration at high amplitudes, as well as the numerical energy conservation property, using both simple finite difference as well as Fourier spectral discretizations. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low back pain (LBP) obviously reduces the quality of life but is also the world’s leading cause of years lived with disability. Alterations in motor response and changes in movement patterns are expected in LBP patients when compared to healthy people. Such changes in dynamics may be assessed by the nonlinear analysis of kinematical time series recorded from one patient’s motion. Since sample entropy (SampEn) has emerged as a relevant index measuring the complexity of a given time series, we propose the development of a clinical test based on SampEn of a time series recorded by a wearable inertial measurement unit for repeated bending and returns (b and r) of the trunk. Twenty-three healthy participants were asked to perform, in random order, 50 repetitions of this movement by touching a stool and another 50 repetitions by touching a box on the floor. The angular amplitude of the b and r movement and the sample entropy of the three components of the angular velocity and acceleration were computed. We showed that the repetitive b and r “touch the stool” test could indeed be the basis of a clinical test for the evaluation of low-back-pain patients, with an optimal duration of 70 s, acceptable in daily clinical practice. 相似文献

The adsorption of 3-ethynyl-trifluoro-toluene (ETFT) on Si(100)-2 × 1 surface in ultra high vacuum is studied in the low coverage regime, through a joint experimental and theoretical approach. The STM images of both filled and empty states revealed few distinct adsorption configurations. On the basis of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations the STM images were simulated and three main adsorption configurations were identified, with a predominance of di-sigma bonded species that leave the benzene ring unreacted. A discussion of the reactivity of the reconstructed silicon surface towards benzene derivatives is proposed by comparing the adsorption of ETFT close related molecules, like styrene and phenylacetylene. 相似文献

Tomographic Diffractive Microscopy is a technique, which permits to image transparent living specimens in three dimensions
without staining. It is commonly implemented in two configurations, by either rotating the sample illumination keeping the
specimen fixed, or by rotating the sample using a fixed illumination. Under the first-order Born approximation, the volume
of the frequency domain that can be mapped with the rotating illumination method has the shape of a “doughnut”, which exhibits
a so-called “missing cone” of non-captured frequencies, responsible for the strong resolution anisotropy characteristic of
transmission microscopes. When rotating the sample, the resolution is almost isotropic, but the set of captured frequencies
still exhibits a missing part, the shape of which resembles that of an apple core. Furthermore, its maximal extension is reduced
compared to tomography with rotating illumination. We propose various configurations for tomographic diffractive microscopy,

We describe several homo- and heteronuclear 2D NMR strategies dedicated to the analysis of anisotropic (2)H spectra of a mixture of dideuterated unlike/like stereoisomers with two remote stereogenic centers, using weakly orienting chiral liquid crystals. To this end, we propose various 2D correlation experiments, denoted "D(H)(n)D" or "D(H)(n)C" (with n=1, 2), that involve two heteronuclear polarization transfers of INEPT-type with one or two proton relays. The analytical expressions of correlation signals for four pulse sequences reported here were calculated using the product-operators formalism for spin I=1 and S=1/2. The features and advantages of each scheme are presented and discussed. We present optical characterization and laser results achieved with single-crystal fibers directly grown by the micro-pulling-down technique. We investigate the spectroscopic and optical quality of the fiber, and we present the first laser results. We achieved a cw laser power of 10 W at 1064 nm for an incident pump power of 60 W at 808 nm and 360 kW peak power for 12 ns pulses at 1 kHz in the Q-switched regime. It is, to the best of our knowledge, the highest laser power ever achieved with directly grown single-crystal fibers. 相似文献
