The synthesis and study of fluorescent PAMAM-based dendritic molecules

New water soluble and fluorescent PAMAM-based dendritic molecules based on the naphthalimide derivative 7H-benz[de]benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline-7-one as the fluorescent unit, have been prepared and their photophysical properties studied in aqueous solution over a wide pH range. The dendrons are all strongly fluorescent through an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) excited state, but this can be modulated by photoinduced electron transfer (PeT) processes, which increases with higher PAMAM dendron generation.     

Multiresidue Analysis of Organic Pollutants in Water by SPE with a C8 and SDVB Combined Cartridge

Abstract

A multi-component target method for screening purposes to determine organic pollutants of different polarities in water is reported. The following classes of chemicals were tested: base-neutral and acidic herbicides, phenolic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and phthalic acid esters.

Data was initially obtained from the extraction of one liter of water sample, using separate octyl bonded porous silica (C8) and highly crosslinked polystyrene based polymer columns (SDVB) cartridges. A second set of data was obtained using for the extraction a combined cartridge containing both phases. The analysis was carried out directly by GC-MS in SIM mode, without any derivatisation, with the exception of acidic herbicides, derivatised with pentafluorobenzylbromide. The obtained results showed recoveries between 75% and 98% at two different spiking levels, with relative standard deviations below 15%.     

PANI-CSA: An Easy Method to Avoid ITO Photolithography in PLED Manufacturing

In order to optimize polymer light emitting diode (PLED) performances, devices with holes injected through an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) / Polyaniline (PANI) electrode into the polymer are much more efficient than devices fabricated with the anode made only by ITO. We demonstrated that by using doped PANI as hole injection layer in a polymer light emitting diode the manufacturing process can become simpler. Indeed, the pattern of conductive layer can be produced without ITO photolithography by UV exposition. As hole transporter layer, Poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) was spin coated over the doped PANI layer and a layer of tris (8-hydroxy) quinoline aluminum (Alq₃) was then thermally evaporated so as to form the electron transport layer. To complete the device structure, Aluminum contacts were deposited onto the organic layers by vacuum evaporation at low pressure. The layers were characterized by X-ray small-angle diffraction, IR Raman and UV-Vis spectroscopies. Devices without PANI and with PANI as HIL were studied.
